The shutdown…THEN coordinated and organized reopening…DID work (or more correctly, is working) @pat…where it wasn’t done half-assed. (All one need do is look at the most densely populated area in the Country…the New York City/New Jersey/Connecticut Corridor). Things could certainly blow-up in a heartbeat…but right now, they are on track.
The rest of the Country…not so much…where even wearing a damn face mask has become a Political flash-point…
Listening to doctors is controversial and as we can see in here not something everyone wants to do. Especially when it’s super hard stuff like staying away from people a bit or throwing a mask on. Honestly what’s next doctors going to ask me to go for a walk and eat a vegetable every once in a while as well?
I don’t think you read my post because you are basically doing a retaliatory agreement.
However, NYC is a bad example of crisis done well. I don’t think they could have fucked it up worse if they deliberately tried to spread the virus. Sure, after the disease ravaged the place, masses of people left, and now you have sky rocketing murder rates, the covid numbers look decent.
It was also the worst hit city in the world and approximately 50% of the deaths occurred in nursing homes, when there were more than enough hospital beds available. Yeah, New York seems like the case of what not to do.
If we want to hold NY as an example, see what NY did and do the opposite.
NYC is gold standard for fucking up a crisis as bad as it could be possibly fucked up.
I hope my “War” analogy holds. Look at the United States and WW-II. We won…but it is mind-boggling the group casualties we accepted…and often of those not even in direct combat roles.
900 here…1,000 there…another 5,000 in another engagement…
We had some engagements that were down-right FUBAR from the start.
I will repeat. The Post-Mortem of this Pandemic will be that:
1) We did some things right. 2) We did some things wrong. 3) We continued to do some things wrong despite mounting evidence. 4) Some things we did were absolutely FUBAR from the start.
Perhaps the nursing home fiasco in New York falls under number 4. You don’t throw out everything they have done and scream that they totally f*cked up everything…because they haven’t.
I find Copeland terrifying (reminds me of Edgar from MIB). The fact that mostly poor people send him their money baffles me. Do they not understand the guy already has a private jet, a huge mansion, travels the world on said jet for pleasure, and hardly pays any taxes.
Yeah, I agree. No chance we could keep the economy shut down forever…it’s already killing people beyond the virus’ scope. People can’t survive without money; but we shouldn’t have to worry about money during a time period where a pandemic is threatening the safety of our families. Without another stimulus check (or multiple), more people will die.
There’s no other good answer to choose besides keeping everything shut down and finally using taxpayer money to support ourselves. That will never fucking happen, but it’s a nice pipe dream. Until then, the economy will slowly begin to reopen and people will die because of it.
Yes. Manipulation of vulnerable people for money is disgusting.
When you look at real preachers like Billy Graham, although they were upper middle class they end up putting most money into charities, ministries, volunteer efforts, etc. You can always tell, because they don’t change their message or attitude when it’s easy to do so.
Rioting - OK. Shooting tear gas - OK. Looting - OK. Burning buildings - OK. All in the name of “protesting Donald Trump” and “Black Lives Matter.” Get the fuck out of here. Don’t worry, though. This behavior doesn’t spread the virus.
(It should also be noted that fat-fuck Jerry Nadler thinks the riots are a “myth”.)
Go to church? Attend a family member’s funeral? No, sir! Not allowed! The virus will spread like wildfire.
Can’t wait to watch all the liberal tears come November.
Of course, ‘everything’ is a strong word. I don’t see them having a good go of it, though. The down stream effects are still manifesting, which in many ways can be worse than the pandemic.
Nobody truly knew what to do, of course. We still don’t in many ways. The information stream is so convoluted and it’s been politicized well beyond the facts and the science of the matter.
As for a shutdown, I think a brief pause was appropriate. Two months and now more is just plain absurd. From what we do know, most of the population is at low risk for the disease and at high risk for economic despair. The two are not mutually exclusive, both can result in death.
For instance, I posted before that at the end of June, for instance, the suicide rate in California was higher than the death total from covid. I do not know if that continues to be true, but that it happened over the duration of the shutdown at all is alarming. People on the edge tend to go over when their situations turn to shit through no fault of their own.
The point of the shutdown was to slow the spread, not erraticate the virus. This could have been accomplished in 2 weeks.
Further, if it was truly, really, actually an existential threat, do you think they would allow the protests and violence to go forth? Hell no, because it would be a killing field and an imminent threat to the entire population.
So does it stand to reason, that protests and riots are ok, not a covid threat, but small business owners get arrested for opening their businesses because of covid? This is still happening today. So tell me, given this obvious hypocrisy, does it make sense to shut down businesses and allow protests and riots?
The anti-mask bullshit just became personal for me.
My father-in-law ended up in the hospital today with double pneumonia - the Covid-19 test came back positive. The CT showed white areas in both lungs.
He got it up from my wife’s aunt from Florida, who despite being in mid-seventies decided to - what’s the phrase? - reject Fauci and Covid-19.
Together with her husband she decided to hop on a plane and visit elderly relatives - can’t have a fake pandemic stop her social life - and asked my father-in-law to pick her up at the airport. Apparently, besides Covid-19 and Fauci she also rejects taxis and ride-sharing apps.
My father-in-law is a conformist idiot who couldn’t bring himself insult his sister by putting on a mask and thus publicly pledging allegiance to the Deep State.
Now the three of them are hospitalized, and it’s not a given that the two Trumpkins will live to fly back to Florida.
Wife is understandably in pieces, but she’s also very angry. Months of discipline and effort - staying at home, social distancing, mask wearing to protect one’s elderly relatives only for it to be undone by social pressure of one elderly fucktard.
So when you see someone on social media post dumb memes about lion prides, mask wearing sheep or droplet sizes, remember that people may literally die over that dumb shit.
