What's Wrong with Us?

more than any doctor ever could, so your making well over $600,000 a year and only working 6 months a year? What exactly is this job you’ll have?

More than MY doctor. Just an ordinary medical doctor, still he did go to school for 8 years.

My long term goal is to make Captain on an offshore vessel, maybe seismic, maybe anchor handling. I can’t be sure, I’ll go with what looks best at the time. I also know ordinary fishermen that make around a million a year, norwegian currency. I think we are about 6 to 1 on the dollar now. Obviously their captain makes 2 or 3 times that amount.
I have a frat brother who works off shore. He works two weeks there and then he is back here for two weeks. He is paid well (don’t know specifics but could ask) but I do know he isn’t making that much damn money as to surpass what most doctors are pulling in. It is a decent living apparently if you can deal with not being home half of the time…plus the risks of issues like hurricanes (Katrina basically put an end to any work for a long time).

Some work 2 weeks on 2 off, others 4-4, and some even 2 on 4 off. Can’t beat that in regards to spare time. I like the longer trips myself, as it gives me more time to travel and such when I’m off-duty.

I don’t know what your friend does, but there are many different jobs offshore, and obviously the head of the oil rig is paid much more than an ordinary worker. I know I’ll make more than my doctor, it’s as simple as checking the tax lists, they are public over here.

I might also get back into fishery. Better money, but less time off.

I love that Steve Martin movie "Little Shop of Horror’s…

“I shoot puppies with my bee bee gun, I poison guppies, something something…”

“I’ll be a deeeeeeen-tist, I have a natural ability to cause pain!”

Something like that, i can’t get the actual lyrics right now…

hm…maybe I shouldn’t major is Psych lol

Really I’m just doing it because it’s interesting in some ways and will help me keep my GPA high which is my biggest concern considering I’m going to go to mental or dental school.

Yes, mental school is hard as hell. That’s why I chose the second option.

lol yea I’m seriously considering dental school now after some research and talking to others. I was actually going to ask you about it sometime. I wanted to become a physician because of my interest in health/fitness/nutrition but the more I research the more I see that you really don’t get much time with patients and that its really a quick and obvious diagnosis followed by filling out a prescription. Along with 55+ hours a week, being on call, dealing with malpractice and insurance issues, etc…

Dentistry on the other hand seems to have less hours, more flexibility, just as high of pay, less malpractice/insurance issues, and it’s potentially easier to open a practice. Apparently its slightly harder to actually get into dental school now and keep a practice open but overall it’s seeming to be the better option

Hint: You misspelled “medical” and I was joking with you. Dental school isn’t any easier. You will give up your social life for a few years. Many of the people I knew who got married in dental school ended up divorced by the end of it. It is stressful and time consuming, just like I would assume law school is like.

The actual career does seem to be less stressful than medicine, however, I work pretty long hours…I’m just not literally “working” the entire time. Dental school was hard to get into when I did it. I am sure it is even harder now.
That’s another thing I’m thinking about, so you had time to be part of a frat too? Is it something you would do again or did it take up more time than you would have liked it to?

nothing feels sexiers than when you think your quads are going to explode from leg extensions but you still manage to fight out 5 more, i fucking relish in that shit.

i lift weights because if i didnt i would probably punch holes in the wall and pick fights with people a lot. it’s a way for me to get out my destructive side without hurting anyone. now that i lift regularly i feel a lot more calm and things dont irritate as much. im more just go with the flow.

build or destroy.

nobody is insulting weight trainers. but we all do have low self esteem. the gym is the most neurotic place because everybody there wants to change themself. i am not saying that is bad but that is a self esteem issue
i think most people who got into bodybuilding or strength sports were outcasted in someway and were either too fat or too skinny (90% of the people on this site were at one point addicted to an MMORPG) but just have a never say die attitude and thats why we go in there and bust our asses how we do.

theres a lot of people who just go into the gym to “tone” or whatever b.s. and theres the occasional lifters too.

if anything though i think most serious lifters, at least bodybuilders, are pretty narcicisstic as we discovered from a test on here recently where most people scored pretty high in narcicisstic traits.

there is definately a common trait we (serious lifters) all share but there are still lots of things which make us all different.
