Kev - I have used some of Defrancos Agile 8 such as the hydrants, but I may have to take a look at them again, The jump rope is something I was looking into for some extra conditioning, theres a crossfit kid at my gym before he gets started on his xfit stuff he likes to show off his jump rope skills…asshole
MiM - I have tight hip flexors as well, but there not painful just tight, today was a bit painful.
Colin - I never thought of it that way, thats an excellent way of thinking thank you.
Ddot - Yep, excellent analogy, again I never really considered it, I just considered as a must to get ready but not something I generally concentrated in.
Joe - lol
Kent - Im a cheap skate, the kicks are Fila Skeletoes, about 30 bucks cheaper than the Vibrams.
B1) DB SHRUG - 100/20 125X2X15
B2) DB LATERALS - 40X3X12
ORANGE BAND PULLAPARTS - THUMBS IN 2X15 THUMBS OUT 2X15
Did straight sets of squats today, didnt ramp up, my knee caps and upper quads are giving me discomfort. I wonder if the 10 weeks of squatting 3 times a week may be catching up to me. I warmed up a good amount did the bar for 3 sets of 10 reps 135,190 for triples and then went with my straight sets to no avail. bummer…
Ok I’ll try to remember some pics next time I have a chance to put them on. Might get her to make me some new ones too.
Ah does that mean you 48 hours away from the gym didn’t fully fix ya? Any stress going on in your life now?
Hey Vanilla Face…it does sound like it could be an overuse situation with the squats. Maybe back off a bit on frequency and mix in a different squat variation for a while.

Yeah good point, I am thinking of switching to a program with more of a 1 squat day a week style either 531 for PLing or Paul Carter’s Strong 15

Not really, it feels like it some tendonitis going on. My life lately hasnt been too stressful thank god, I do think like Git said it may be an overuse thing going on, still sick may need to back off a bit.
I have been front squatting 2x a week it helped get a decent front squat but combine that with jumping
My knee has a Frankenstein bump so I backed off to 1x a week for aboutn8 weeks some weeks I refraineed altogether
It’s also one of the reasons I won’t do 5x5 for now too much volume
The 531 total body is laid out for three days a week but only one of those dys goes above 60%
And by the time the cycle start toget too intense it’s probably time for me to do something else
Yeah I think I was a bit too overzealous when I thought I could do this for a year, I wish I could, what I may do is return to 531 for PLing for a while, then closer to the meet do Paul Carter’s Strong 15 then take another crack at the 5x5
In fact I am going to start 531 for PLing on Mon or Tuesday, Only switch in the program is I am going to combine my Squat and Bench day as I like to have the 4th day as a conditioning day.
So its 512 in the AM here in NYC, as usual I cant sleep when normal people sleep, its about 25 degrees out and I have my first softball game of the season in 2 hours…yipeee! will head to the gym for conditioning after the game…
Yeah PG and MiM it was cold as fuck this morning…but its always good to see friends I dont get to see much during the winter…these are mostly all my friends from High School, so its a pretty special time for me. We have been playing softball together for 16 years and met in high school, on top of that its a very competitive league with some real good ball players, yes it is softball but its not as easy as you think!
Soooo…A long but fun day, got up about 4am in the morn because I couldnt sleep had my softball game at 7am back in my old stomping grounds of Queens, NY it was cold as fuck! Now it doesent matter what weight lifting or conditioning or whatever I do, for some reason the somewhat low impact sport of softball always leaves me sore as hell.
The odd thing is with only 4 solid hours of sleep I had some energy to spare, so while it was mainly a conditioning day I felt like benchin…so I benched and other stuffs.
The CGBP 325 for 2 Im considering a PR because I never went that heavy, I just wanted to see what I could do, I probably had another one in the tank but I didnt want to push it.
I also was speaking to a gym buddy, a young kid only 18 but a nice guy and he trains hard, he’s also one of the tribe (i.e. hes a jew too) so he’s busting my balls saying I cant do a 1 handed pullup…so he gets up and does 3, all 175 pounds of him…so I gotta get at least one…and I did I never even attempted one before I thought my forearm was going to explode. So it got me thinking I wanna be able to do those Muscle ups all the cool kids are doing, I tried to do it and it was laughable, but everytime I do my fat ass is going to try.
After that the fam and I did some steady state cardio for 2 miles with the dawgs in the park
Are you warming up enough? Are you taking any Flameout (I sound like I’m pimping that out but it’s really, really helped my knees out). Sleep could be a factor too if you’re not getting enough of it.
Good stuff on the softball. It’s cool that you have friends going back that far and you still see each other from time to time.
Keep up the good work and don’t give up on the thrice weekly squats yet…
I play every so often on a beer league team. The league is so bad that some people think I’m a ringer because I can hit the ball over the fence at times.
7am Softball. In February. In NYC. Yeah, you guys are nuts…
I’m starting to get the tendinitis in my left elbow now. Have had it in my right elbow for close to 8 months. MSM and Fish Oil seems to help but it doesn’t seem to want to go away. Hammer Curls or Reverse Grip Curls are the most aggravating factor.
PS: My summer ball teams have started indoor ‘spring training’. Haven’t thrown a ball since October and I’m significantly stronger so I felt pretty Tebow-ish playing catch.
