Do you really want to get into this?
In short, no, lifting weights doesn’t always build muscle. Just look around the gym at all the clowns lifting weights for years on end making no progress.
And my point
Would you post a story about the time you and your buddy were in the gym squatting and one of you ripped a huge fart? You were lifting weights so the topic must be about bodybuilding…
And to reiterate a point that has already been made DOMS has jackshit to do with building muscle. The most one can conclude based on DOMS is that the muscles were used in some capacity. If you do a different chest pressing exercise every week for 4 months you will probably get pretty sore after each session. Do you think that is going to lead to as much muscle growth as someone who sticks with a movement that has shown progress in the individual, but leads to less intense soreness after each particular session?
And I don’t normally use myself as an example because it doesn’t necessarily add relevance but yesterday I incline pressed 280 for 3 reps (4 with a spot), I know that 36 hours later I will feel some soreness in my chest (280 for 3 happens to be the best number I’ve achieved on that lift to date). If I chose to use the incline press machine at my gym next week (maybe cybex or precor I don’t remember whihc it is) and pressed its equivalent of 200 pounds for 3-5 I know for an absolute fact that I will be much more sore after that workout. I would not expect to build as much muscle than if I would have chosen to press 280 for 4 unassisted reps on the incline BB press.
I don’t claim to be big or strong or smart or more expereinced than anyone else, but not everyone you talk to is a complete moron, keep that in mind
