I must start this with saying aesthetics aren’t a massive goal of mine as such, it’d just be nice to look like I lift a bit more consistently. It’s crazy how much difference a good tshirt makes. If I wear a dark blue expensive sport tshirt or even fruit of the loom I look tiny. If I wear a cheap muscle fit light gray top, I look massive but also a little fat. I find that the tshirts that always look best on me only look good on me for an hour or so before the sleeves eventually loosen up. My arms going from trying to bust out to being able to fit another arm in there!
I know nothing about fashion so wondered if any of you can point me in the right direction of some affordable tees that look decent on someone with a little bit of muscle on them but not overly lean.
I believe that this is very individual and also only you notice.
I also have some shirts i think i look big in, but my gf likes different ones and says i look the best in those.
I think that we also have these like “good days” when we think we look good and then the bad days when we just want to cover up, right? Well, no one else sees that or notices. My GF is into fitness also and she also has these “im bloated and ugly” days while im just sitting there and “nah, i dont see any difference”.
Same is with us, our shirts and whatever we obsess about. If a person does not care much, he wont see any difference no matter what tshirts you wear. We are the only ones that see those differences.
I also think that “i look bigger in this” is something MAYBE other males would see. The whole “being bigger” thing is male oriented, so we see it and maybe some creeps who really care about how other men look compared to them.
Most women wouldnt see a difference, or maybe even preffer a shirt that doesnt show much of your body, but she would find it hot for 10 different reasons non of which is “look bigger in it”.
Ever since i came to these conclusions i dont even look at what am i grabbing from the pile of clothes.
This sums it up. A clean shirt that is your right size is the best you can do. I don’t believe in magical shirts that change your look from being a small dude to being jacked and a bit chubby:
This sounds like a school girl discussing how a skirt or shirt makes them look fat. You know what makes you look fat? Having a bunch of fat on your body. And if someone said “Buy a Prana t shirt in green, size medium” it would do you no good so it’s not clear what you’re looking for here.
My gf likes the shirts that cover me up the most as she has this thing where - she doesnt like that everything is showing, she likes to see a line here or there so it keeps the mind going, it still noticable but you cant see shit, so it gets her more interested or some shit.
If someone is big, he should look big in no matter what tho. You cant hide 250+ in a baggy Tshirt imo.
Just gain 70 pounds of pure muscle! Okay, with that bullshit out of the way…
Lululemon Metal Vent Tech T-shirt (pricey tho)
True Classic Tees: Cut different. A little tighter in the arms and shoulders, a bit looser around waist. I hate a T-shirt with giant arm holes. The Rock would have hard time filling out some sleeves on cheap shirts.
A T Nation shirt. Adds 20 pounds to your bench press too. (No, seriously, they fit nice.)
One genetic reality with T-shirts: Those with relatively large arms and full, long muscle bellies will always look big in T-shirts.
Conversely, those with the same circumference arms but short muscle bellies will have a difficult time finding a T-shirt that accentuates their arms.
Heh, re-reading I can see that it does sound a little like that.
Obviously I disagree with you on the shirt stuff though, a shirt can make a massive difference in your appearance and it’s silly to think otherwise. I’m not imagining a “magical” shirt but different materials can show differing amounts of definition, something a bit thin might show a bit of a gut even if you’re 15% with a bit of anterior pelvic tilt, or feeling a bit bloated. Colour alone can make a world of difference.
I’m not overly bothered though, just want something I can get that’s affordable that people find hugs them the right amount and the sleeves don’t expand within an hour of wearing.
American Giant has the best hoodie for guys who lift. Has a wide waistband and tapers the physique nicely. (My God, we do sound like women.) I dislike a hoodie that gives me an artificial gut. Worked hard to get rid of that, don’t need a jacket to give it back to me. It’s called the “classic full zip.”
Agreed. Their stuff is rare these days in that it’s made for fit, full grown men. Most things that are slim fit are for skinny teenagers, and things that are athletic fit are for dudes with big guts.
In addition to their hoodie, I also really like their Moto full zip sweatshirt.
Ha! Nailed it. I appreciate their understated look matched with high quality. I’m past the age where I want a big neon Nike logo slashed all over my clothes. Also, f*ck Nike in the heart with a railroad spike. (I have a wee bit of dislike for that company.)
I have this problem constantly. 2XL shirts are tight across the shoulders and around the arms (fine) but are cut ultra wide to hide a 50+ inch waist. Wife says my athletic cut (pricier T-shirts) look best on me for this reason.
