So I barely have a 2pack and I started out pretty fat at around 180-190 pounds last year. I think I was 5’8 last year and I was around 15 and turned 16 this august. So when I first started lifting I was on extreme cutting diets. Yes I fell for many of those fraud diets like the military diet and 24 hour fasts with cardio etc…
So I screwed some things up but today (around 1 year from my starting point), I’m as low as 152 but can go up to 162 depending on food/water/hormones etc…
Stats:
Age:16
Height:5’9 or 5’10
Weight: 152-162
Bench max: 145
Squat max:255
No deadlift.
Overhead press max: somewhere between 95-115
So on my last post which was weeks ago, people said I needed to bulk. I’m confused because I thought if you were low bodyfat despite lack of muscle you would have abs. I now look good in clothes but not naked. So what should I do to get Abs? Because I heard you get abs on a cut not a bulk… lean bulk? Or just keep cutting?
Cut so far 1 year
Bulk so far never attempted
Do not pay attention to the 16 year olds who are ripped to shreds and have six packs - that’s genetics. My best friend growing up was not only shredded as shit, but amazing at everything he tried. The question here is, are you gonna moan about genetics or man the fuck up and build a solid physique? You don’t have enough muscle yet. By the time you get a six pack you’ll just look emaciated. I’ve seen crackheads with six packs. Eat right, lift hard, and give yourself time.
Last piece of advice:
Make a training log. Keeps you accountable, people will pop up to give you advice, and years from now when you look the way you want, you can go back and appreciate all the hard work you put in to get there. Good on you for starting your training young, now let’s do what 99% of us failed to do: work out/eat the right way from day one.
I probably ate more when I was 160 to get up 190 tho.
Hopefully you’re not doing nonsense in the gym. If you want abs and a muscular body, being a male cardio bunny won’t get you there. Don’t eat and train like a girl with an eating disorder, especially if that’s not the look you’re going for.
I think what you’re asking is “when should I count all the calories I eat?” That’s only one metric for one variable, so the answer might be “never,” or it could be “sometime in the future.” Either way, don’t worry about it right now. Don’t even worry about when to worry about it.
don’t count calories for at least the next 10 years.
If you want a muscular body, you will have to eat enough to support muscle growth. I would suggest not cutting more until you’ve developed a decent level of strength/muscle size. After you do that, it will become easier to cut fat. Your metabolism will be better, and you’ll have some good muscle underneath the fat to reveal at the end of the cut. This is a process, my friend. It takes time. Based on where you are now, you might not get what you want before you finish high school, and that’s ok! Life is long, and you’ll be well served to chase bigger dreams than having abs at 17, ya know?
