My girlfriend has started training to be a figure athlete and she has been adjusting her diet and watching her portions like a hawk. She is looking for a protein shake that isn’t full of fats etc. that she can take once or twice throughout the day to supplement her diet. I figured I’d throw a line out there, Ladies, what protein are you taking or what would you suggest for a woman to use? She has great training habits (NCAA Div. 1 Basketball) but recently graduated and looking to achieve a new goal.
Metabolic Drive?
I don’t supplement with protein powder that often…
I use Optimum Nutrition. Its an isolate and has 24g of protein and 12cal per serving. Its the highest quality in its price range, I believe. Something else might be more delicious though.
Gaspari Myofusion (currently on banana)
36 grams per scoop
157 cals
25 g of protein
5 g of carbs
3 g of fat
and freakin awesome taste.
champion 100% pure whey - love the vanilla
32 g per serving
130 cals
23 g of protein
4 g of carbs
2 grams of fat
and a little unknown canadian plug:
no additives and sweetened with stevia - my everyday choco, really good with my morning oats.
…
you gotta pimp the Biotest!
Nature’s Best Isopure is awsome. no discomfort 50g per serving

?was this an exam MIM? never tried Biotest, wouldn’t know one way or another.
seriously: ask for samples, try em out look for something low carb and artifical sweetners make a lot of people gassy so watch out. In the end real food is best but for some of us that’s tough all the time so find a pp you can commit to using regularly.
Not to pimp Biotest, but I really do like the Low Carb Vanilla MD. I usually prefer chocolate and higher cal meal replacement style shakes to the 110 calorie MD, but it’s so gosh darn tasty.
Banana Metabolic Drive is one of the best protein powders I’ve tasted.
I also like ProPeptide, it’s Dorian Yates protein.
I tried all the MD flavours and I didn’t like them, to be honest - there’s something artificial in there that makes my throat itch.
I go with MyProtein, a UK company that does various bulk powders. Unfortunately you won’t be able to get this in the US but the choc nut whey is absolutely divine. Also love the vanilla.
I’m not a huge fan of MD either. I use Syntrax Matrix in perfect chocolate. I’m about to mix some into my coffee right now!

I thank you for the coffee+protein idea, it’s freaking perfect!
I often wondered about putting protein powder in hot beverages like hot chocolate - i guess if you can put it in coffee you can put it in HC, no?

I ice my coffee down.
Some people say heating the protein can denature it or something, but I’ve never tried it, so I don’t really worry.

I have a tub of that stuff sitting around right now. I had one scoop and decided it wasnt for me. Its like chocolate and rotten milk flavored sand. I know several other people that like it though.
Chocolate protein + coffee is delightful.
Surge Recovery (original flavor – tastes like angelfood cake) by Biotest for pre and post work out (one shake). I’m still in a fat loss phase so I don’t presently need to add a lot of extra protein. I do have chocolate Metabolic Drive at home for when I need it and I think it tastes fantastic.
haha I meant to say 120cal not 12, my bad.

You won’t denature the protein. Ever had grilled meat or fried? That’s higher heat than a cup of coffee and a longer cooking time; big people have been grilling meat for decades, no?
Same with mixing powder with oatmeal.
I bet pasteurization or some other super high heat treatment might affect the protein, but none of those are within the typical temperature ranges that we deal with when cooking.
If you add protein powder to coffee, you have to mix the protein with a little cool water first to make a very thick pudding-like consistency… otherwise it tends to curdle in the hot beverage.
Like MIM, I am not using much protein powder right now, but my favorite is Muscle Provider in Chocolate by Beverly… but it’s expensive. I like the Metabolic Drive in Banana, but only in pudding form (add just enough water to made a pudding like consistency) and I like the MD in Vanilla… but only to mix with natural PB… tastes like PB FUDGE! YUM! =D
For the best overall quality/price/taste/etc I like Optimum Nutrition in Double Rich Chocolate!
