What Passes for Masculinity is Stupid

Elvis?

Latka!

What’s it like knowing a make-up-wearing degenerate is destroying your military? That’s gotta sting a little.

Are we up to 3 Russian troll accounts responding to this thread? I would not have expected this level of interest.

It’s practice for meddling in the next US election.

Why are we hating on makeup?

I unfortunately missed this thread when it popped up initially. Just finished sifting through all the unnecessary Russian propaganda.

Back on track: I started reading on T-nation (I think T-Mag at that point) when I was in my late teens. Around 20 years ago. TC was around alllll the way back then, kicking around these sorts of ideas. I’ve always appreciated them. There weren’t a lot of voices on here back then, and he was really a big part of what the T-Mag guys were doing. Always one of my favorite writers. He’s a classy dude (although there’s a 70%+ chance he’d deny this), and extraordinarily thoughtful in his writings. It’s been a real treat to see more from him recently.

SO: hopefully I can help redirect to the original point, which was about the characteristics of masculinity that are often overlooked in the world today, but are nonetheless still pillars of how masculinity should be defined. All this political blah blah blah has its place, but you’re really burying the lead here, which is a REAL discussion about what masculinity means to you.

How about this: if Zelensky isn’t your guy, who is? I was interested to see who ALEX wanted to use as an example, but… well, his posts speak to that. Dodged the question.

What about everyone else? Do we have other modern figures, political or not, who embody these characteristics in a way that few others do? I’d love to hear what people come up with!

I don’t know if I can pinpoint one particular person that encompasses all the traits I consider masculine but I can point out what I like in some

  1. Elon Musk - with regards to his visionary ability in inventing stuff and not seeing limits to bring better tech to market (he is a little bit of an asshole outside of that)

  2. Ronnie Coleman for his shear determination and work ethic in his chosen sport. Also he seems like a genuinely nice man who would give you the shirt off his back if you were his friend.

  3. Teddy Roosevelt- probably as close to the complete masculine package as I can think of. Overcame physical disability to do things such as canoe down the Amazon (trip damn near killed him). Also guy displayed great leadership in combat and as a president.

Arnold, for the same reasons, and then some.

I like the everyman. The guys who bust their balls day in, day out, for years on end in the hopes of passing something good along to his children and dying with peace and dignity.

They’re the same guys that go off to serve their country, coach baseball, volunteer firefighting, and everything else that makes the world a better place.

I haven’t responded to anything on here probably in nearly a decade. This was a good write up though. I wish that more young men shared your perspective because at least it’s a balanced position from which dialogue can be had. Also it’s a position that isn’t moved into reactionary nonsense by the existence of those diametrically opposed to it. This isn’t something ppl often (not never, often) find on their own, ideally it would be reinforced by fathers and the men in a young man’s life but… therein lies another societal issue.
Again, well done

Great article, TC! I realize that I am very late to the party, but I noticed that this had mostly devolved into a political discussion, and I was curious as to whether or not anyone accusing Zelensky of being a Western puppet could answer this question. If Zelensky is a puppet, why didn’t he immediately accept Trump’s quid pro quo offer? No one would have found out, and he would have gotten the weapons systems he was after. Is it possible that Zelensky has integrity even when dealing with an ally in private?

And, I know some people are going to accuse me of being whatever due to the recency of my account. My account was deleted for some reason, but if you look up my user name, then you’ll see that I have been posting on here since 2007 (I even used to buy the print magazine way back when Bill Philips was the asshole in charge.)

@lou_smeets Do you see a connection between the CT Neurotype system and what TC Louma says in this article? I see a guy 1A that fits the ā€œtoxic masculinityā€ trait very well and a guy 1B/2A that fits the ā€œbiological masculinityā€ trait very well.

Damn. Good to see TC is still around. He must be still doing something right, as he must have done back in the day to keep us old time (and I mean old-time) readers coming back after all this time.
