A recent survey of 2,000 adults asked several fitness-related questions including, “What makes you feel out of shape?”
The two most common answers:
Running out of breath often (49%) – with 29% saying they realized they were out of shape after not being able to walk up a flight of stairs without feeling winded.
Trying on clothing that no longer fits (46%)
Those are common, for sure, but I assume this was a survey of regular people. Is it different for more dedicated gym-goers?
Feeling out of shape doesnt bug me. I know to a degree with a little time and effort i can bring those attributes back on line. Im just dealing with father time is the thing that’s bugging me.
Being strong makes everything easier. You don’t have to push yourself off the couch, you can go for a spur-of-the-moment activity, sleep is better, confidence is better.
I feel out of shape when everything seems to be more difficult.
I was a decent soccer player growing up. Small, weak arms, always had strong legs. Fast sprinter. Ran cross country to keep in shape for soccer, but best 10k time was a mediocre 39 minutes.
Today, very big, strong, pretty slow. Fast sprinter for size. Very slow jogging any significant distance, but could do a ten minute mile on a treadmill. 39 minutes for 10k seems like a pipe dream. Running makes me feel out of shape since I was once better at it.
Not being able to handle the volume that I used to and having something that hurts - ALL OF THE TIME. It’s the revolving door of pain. Getting old sucks. lol
