I liked everything about it. I was good at all of the games, but had a hard time reigning it in when I got wound up.
Most fun was the gymnastics and tumbling. Took to that like a fish to water. Having good upper body strength and kinesthetic senses from starting wrestling young made hand springs and all of the other stuff seem completely natural.
As long as it wasn’t volleyball, I loved it. I can’t stand playing volleyball with shitty players. I can play other sports where people suck because it doesn’t matter as much, but when you’re trying to play volleyball with people who don’t move for the ball or just hit it randomly, the game sucks balls.
I loved PE. Since I went to Catholic school, I especially liked not wearing a jumper/skirt for a while even if it meant that I had to wear goofy gym shorts. Also, we had a male PE teacher in H.S., so we used to smoke all sorts of shit in the locker room before class. Maybe that’s why my memories of what we actually did are a bit hazy.
Pretty much enjoyed it all, but one of the best activities in H.S. was archery. I never really liked softball or volleyball because I wasn’t very good at either. Honestly, we did a lot of calisthenics. Oh, and floor hockey was pretty cool. I never minded the running either. Wish we had more PE. I only had one year in H.S.
Elementary school, playing booty and dodgeball. Not really pe but recess.
Middle school, the pull up bar, push ups, and the funny jamaican janitor that smoked weed.
High school, dodgeball, volleyball and slide tackling the gym teacher in soccer. Then they canceled everything so we had to one lap around the gym then do whatever we wanted. Worst part is the gym had ropes but they never taught us how to climb rope.
Wow, thanks for all the responses so far everyone.
@ cal congrats on the new job. That is partly why i asked this question, to get somewhat of an idea on a broader scale of what i can do to make PE fun. Being a good role model and leader is another important part of being a teacher. Good luck
Regarding dodgeball, i think it’s a great game as well. Most of the kids that play it have a great time and get a decent amount of activity in as well. Which by that definition would be a good thing with regards to PE, but unfortunately with regards to the potential to do harm, most educational groups(teacher organizations) if you will look down upon it and in schools anyways it is a dieing game unfortunately.
@xilinx, that is something i intend to avoid when i become a PE teacher. I want to make PE fun, partly because there are so many people just like you that didn’t enjoy PE, but alos because PE should be fun. Reading all the responses, those are many of the reasons PE should be fun. Getting out of the regular classroom, moving and exercising, playing fun games and etc. I am also sorry to hear of your experience because while i had teachers that were tough and strived to make me work harder, they also truly cared and made it obvious in how they interacted with the individual students every single day.
Getting pants in front of the entire class when I was a freshman by some douchy senior whom I accused being gay for wanting to see what kind of underwear I was wearing who then proceeded to punch me in the arm until it no longer functioned properly for a few hours.
In retrospect I think he was a very insecure young man and was trying to be cool in front of his peers by picking on a freshman who just whooped his ass in some badmiton and was a little too cocky about it. Oh well, last I heard he was addicted to heroin and sucked dick for money underneath an overpass in the bad part of town. I win.
But the BEST part of PE for me was ditching my boring history class to go to the gym b/c our PE teacher was awesome and let whoever wanted to participate in whatever activity they were doing on that particular day participate which meant I got to flirt with the cute girls playing volleyball and show off my mad skills and wiffle ball. God I miss high school.
Occassionally, not having pussycake PE teachers that said didn’t allow all the other pussycakes kids let a little rain OR even gasp, shock horror! SNOW get in the way of going outside & playing football (soccer)instead of staying inside & doing something really ghey like dance or basketball etc.
That + perving on all of the girls of course. Though, sadly perving opportunities were greatly dimminished around the age of 13, given the imminenent arrival of boobs & boners, which of course lead to single sex games (no homo!).
I fucking hated PE, because I was fat, slow, tall, and my gym clothes didn’t fit me right.
I would have been cool with another math class or anything.
Also, probably would have been cool had they just had some weights and let me go to town. This whole ‘team sport’ concept seemed and seems alien to me on a personal level.
I dealt with it by hiding and reading books in gym class. For the record, I only had gym in middle school. My high school got a waiver from the state so they wouldn’t have to put us through that.

Lol, I realized you were a future PE teacher, thought I’d save a future generation some frustration…
Mind you, I was a very stubborn kid, but still a teacher should never take it out on his students, no matter how frustrated he/she feels.
I loved to play basketball with my boys back in the day, and have that count as “class”.
And also, since I went to a small private school on the side of a mountain on Kauai for a couple of years in high school, PE was considered hiking up and around the mountain on the various trails that there were up there. Once a sememster, because it was a small high school, the whole school would spend the entire day hiking up to one of the peaks of the mountain and back down. It was a pretty awesome time
