What Happens in This Forum

I have an ontological question for PWI:

What are ya’ll doing “in here” when you start massive threads about things like morality and epistemology and secret muslims? like, are you guys hashing these things out so that you can make sure you’re comfortable with your beliefs or are you educating the rest of the forum readers or are you blowing the lid off of some serious lies and misinformation or…

All of the above.

Also, the intellectually honest contributors can use rational argument to help change or solidify currently held beliefs.

But you forgot the biggest reason some people come here:

lulz

I come here for two main reasons:

  1. To learn and

  2. To have what I believe (within limits; I don’t discuss things like my Religious Beliefs) challenged. I think one learns and grows that way.

Here’s a hint… look at the front page of the PWI forum… you know the one with all the threads listed…Then look at 1) Who starts many of the threads, 2) Who’s the most recent poster to most of the threads and 3) What threads have the most comments…

I think you’ll start to see some patterns if you do this frequently. The internet gives a voice to many people that love the sound of their own voice(s) in their head.

I came here six years ago lookin for info on the Anabolic Diet, right about the time God started calling back to repentance and back Himself. My participation has changed as I have changed. I’ve gotten to know people here. I actually care about them. What better place to talk about what’s most important? I didn’t plan it this way.

twin:

“GUILTY AS CHARGED!” in terms of starting a number of threads,(most of which are meant to generate discussion).

However; I rarely (if ever) get into a lot of long, drawn out arguments; nor do I have any desire to “hear myself talk”.

It’s all about learning something new, or at least gaining a new perspective.

x2, except for the qualifier on #2.

A few years back, one of the mods at the time joked with me that PWI was known as the “80 IQ and under” forum by the powers that be.

Which is probably why I fit right in.

For the laughs.

Not as amusing as the Republican primaries, but close.

Oh… and the deep thinkers.

-I practice my english conversation skills.
-I belong to a very rare breed of atheists and the local christian conservatives kidnapped me for experimental purpose.

This is the single most compelling argument for Christianity I’ve ever seen you make ever.

I come here to debate politics for the same reason I go to wrestling practice.

I come here to debate religion for the same reason that I go to the zoo.

Participating in discussions while on frequent breaks from a textbook. When it all starts blurring together (the studying or forum squabbles), I go back to one or the other.
