I’m not sure, but it sounds like a Vulcan anti-aircraft gun.

That will fit nicely in my front yard!

There are a couple other systems that this could be, but they are usually only on ships, the video could just be a testing facility, and not an actual deployed emplacement.

It is a 20mm gatling gun. It is commonly mounted on naval vessels. It is being adapted as an anti-rocket system for use in Iraq and other places. That might be what they are testing it against. 6000 rounds a minutes, sounds like a chainsaw.
The army has a 7.62mm version mounted on helicopters. When using tracers every fifth round it looks like a stream of fire. It’s been referred to as the finger of death.

If anyone plays Battlefield 2 on the PC its the gun on the USS Essex that you can shoot down the Migs and J-10’s with, but usually they crash into you after you get them and take you out.

If you could provide audio at from ‘request for variance’ hearing, I’d appreciate it.
It’s called a “Sea-Whiz” (for CIWS).
Thing is freaking bad ass, and if you ever get to see or hear one in person, you will never forget it.
It’s an Anti-missile chain gun that puts up a wall of bullets to hit incoming missiles. We developed it after the the Falkland Islands bit where the Exocet missile sunk two british ships.

Doc Stig! I know what must be done.
The Welsh must dress as indians, and sneak onto english merchant ships at night, and dump tea into boston harbor, to protest the unfair taxation policy.
Then, on orders from general WELSHington, (the welsh version of
George Washington) Poorly equipped, untrained, and inadequetly fed Welsh militia must seize fort Ticonderoga, in the night. This is where the English keep these giant chainsaw like guns. Then, General Henry Knox must devise ox-sleds to drag these 20 MM gatling guns over the frozen canadian and northeastern tundra. In the middle of the night, under orders from General Welshington, Welsh militiamen must dig a giant earthen foritification around boston harbor, and then set up these 20mm gatling guns.
that is how you shall free wales from the iron grip of England.

Why would the Welsh have to travel to the US to free themselves from Englands Iron Grip. Its Canada and Australia who still have the Queen, they might want to do that first.

???
Anyway…
Here’s a good photo of it in action. From afar it just looks like any other radar dome, but it truly has hate in it’s heart for anything that doesn’t have the right IFF code.
B.
It’s called an LPWS, short for “Land-based Phalanx Weapon System”; basically the Army’s answer to the Navy’s CIWS system.
Here’s the manufacturer’s spec sheet. Enjoy.
Now I know what to ask Santa for this Christmas.
On second thought, I’d rather have a couple of these babies: General Dynamics M197 20mm gatling guns. Fires the same round as the M61A1 Vulcan, but at a reduced rate of fire. Normally used on helicopters, but I would mount them on my Land Rover.

Huh, I never knew that was made. I just figured it was the CIWS being tested at a production facility or something.
If you like that do some searching on an Australian company called Metalstorm. They make a 36 barrel gattling gun capable of 1,000,000 rounds per minute.

It isn’t a Gatling or rotating barrel gun, but rather a stack of tubes filled with electrically fired bullets stacked on top of each other. It’s basically 36 barrels, each filled with several bullets stacked nose to end, that are all electrically fired a few millisconds apart. Thus, the 1,000,000 rounds per minute is slightly misleading. They haven’t found a way to make it practical for battlefield use yet.
Here is the non NFA version.
