I feel the need to point out that sticking with isolation lifts to keep your back safe while you’re running a whole bunch of anabolics after recovering from meth addiction is like putting on a bulletproof vest before injecting yourself with a syringe full of AIDS.

Ronnie Coleman is great. I first saw him speak when Patrick Bet David interviewed him, and Ronnie appeared as not being the sharpest knife in the drawer(said he was just taking and doing whatever Chad Nicholls told him to).

Then I watched the Ronnie Coleman The King film and realized how wrong I was. The guy has got so much character. I’ll be sporting some of the tshirts from his merch store after the lockdown is over. Yeah buddy, lightweight baby!

The guy got like a 3.9 gpa in college for accounting. He might sound dumb, but I highly doubt he is. I also think that to be the best in almost anything requires some smarts. Just agreeing with you. I really like Ronnie as a BBer and from what I can tell as a person.

At the very least if he really isn’t smart, the guy outworks his deficiency. That would be more admirable IMO anyways. But I don’t think he is dim.

Yeah, first time I heard Ronnie I thought that too but in hindsight,… he’s got a serious Texas drawl, which doesn’t typically make one sound highly educated, and he was discussing bodybuilding training, which in the days before internet-experts-citing-studies-for-lack-of-their-own-actual-results, isn’t the most complicated thing in the world.

I love Ronnie. Character? The guy loves bodybuilding, truly enjoyed training for and being mr. Olympia, and watching him go through his day to day routine, he always seemed to me a pretty happy guy just living his life.

People are pretty irrational with squats and deadlifts. IIRC, injuries per hour was higher with recreational basketball than powerlifting training. I doubt many people even think about the dangers involved in a pick up game, but many refuse to do lower body compound lifts.

It’s pretty unfortunate really, because squats and deadlifts would improve basketball ability. Increased muscle mass and explosiveness would contribute greatly. Eh, the new crop of kids these days are afraid of everything except their X-box.

It’s not even the new crop of kids. I was told by adults in high school that I shouldn’t lift until I was 16 because it would stunt my growth and that deadlifting was dangerous.I was also taught by a wrestling coach to stop on pullups when the bar gets to the top of the head, and stop a fist distance away from the floor for pushups and the bar on bench because of shoulder health.

There’s always been fear mongering by adults on lifting. Even when you go to kids lifting on IG, there are all sorts of comments from grown men and women that they’re lifting too heavy.
