Right now I’m aiming to bulk (5’7.5, 166 lbs and around 15% body fat) and I was wondering what supplements to pick up? For a general use protein powder, is Metabolic Drive or Grow! Whey superior? Do I really need a post-workout drink like Surge? What about Superfood or Flameout? Any experience you might have would be really appreciated.
If you’re intending to bulk, I would put Surge on the top of your list. If you feel that you won’t be able to get all the protein you need throughout the day, I would recommend Metabolic Drive. If you have some left over dough, get Flameout. Its a wonder supplement for health and body comp. Other then that, save up your money for groceries.
Well, I’m still underage and with my family, so groceries are fine. We’re starting to tighten our belts though, so I might have to limit it to just one or two things.

Surge, Low-Carb Metabolic Drive and Flameout.
Done.
Now go lift some heavy stuff.
I mean it - stop over analyzing every little detail!

He never even thanked us for the help in his bodyfat measurement thread.
- Surge
- Creatine Monohydrate
- Metabolic Drive Complete (not low carb)
- Grow! Whey
-buy bulk fish oil from Sams Club or Costco
- Regardless of what supps you decide to buy don’t take them all at the same time, rather wait until your gains stall from one stack to add another supp to your arsenal. This way your gains remain constant.
Edit: whoops did’nt read you can only buy two things, in that case go with Surge and Metabolic Drive complete, save the low carb version for when you’re cutting, which should’nt be for a loooooong, looooooong time.

I forgot that I posted that. Otherwise, I would have been right on it. I’ll get to that now.
Surge would be a good idea.
But really food will be the most important thing.
What do you plan on eating before you plan on supplementing?

Is Flameout significantly better or worse than say, fish oil w/ Omega-3 from Costco? The family starting buying that stuff in bulk recently, and I figured I’d just take advantage of that. After going through everyone’s replies, the general gist seems to be ‘buy Surge & Metabolic Drive’ - thanks for the advice.

I’m on Rippetoes, today is an off-day for me. I did improve my bench by twenty pounds though. Just one more question before I’m off to something more productive - is there any real difference between normal Metabolic Drive and Metabolic Drive Complete, other than the protein mix and carbohydrate content? I’m keeping below 100g of carbs from grains a day, but is the stuff in Metabolic Drive complete anything to be concerned about? Thank you for the advice in Bodybuilding, I’ll stop worrying about the details and just get back to cooking.
I wish an 11’ neck made me a freak giant. What would that make Ronnie Coleman?

Well, I can pick up more than two things, but I’m wary about buying too much at this point - sort of want to trim it down to just what I need. My parents just picked up bulk fish oil for unrelated reasons, what’s a decent daily dosage? I’ve just been doing one pill so far, but I’ve heard as much as four, any adivce?

x2 there really is no supplement for food! I would (if you are abe to) add Surge, Superfood, the Flameout is great but you will need to be sure you are getting enough GLA in your diet to get the most out of it, for high dose fish oil protocols Norweigen Naturals and Carlson are both great!
I also like Krill oil (it is expensive), Smart Blend, and Alpha Omega. It is best to rotate your sources of fish oils and contrary to what was stated above DON’T GO CHEAP when it comes to this particular supplement, it does make a difference.
It is OK to save money on the good brands, in fact that is the idea, but do yourself a favor and don’t waste the money on the Sam’s Club brand or the like!
As long as you’re getting enough food, I’d stick with basic basics…
1-Protein POwder (can be Metabolic Drive or even Grow! Whey provided you’re eating every 2 hours)
2-Creatine (it’s cheap as hell, and helps recovery)
EVerything else at your present experience should revolve around eating quality foods every 2-3 hours and getting enough sleep. I honestly don’t think you need fish oils (which I personally live on -lol), or even Surge (kinda expensive when added in to the other stuff each month) if you can get adequate (I said ‘adequate’, not highest possible caliber) PWO nutrition on your own.

Stu - your avatar is like life size right now. Nice calves man. Do you really work out in Sketchers?
(Sorry OP, nothing to add, listen to those other guys)

You’re absolutely correct. I just figured that he’s a young kid, and he’d be better off spending his money on more food. I know my weekly food bills are pretty steep without adding my supplements (and I like to think I only use the basic stuff!)

Oh yeah,… ANalog- I do train in sketchers. There’s a store right near me, so I just pop in a couple times a year and pickup a few pairs -they usually have pretty good sales
Metabolic Drive
Creatine
Surge if you can afford it otherwise use chocolate milk with a scoop of protein powder.

I eat clean - organic chicken, wild salmon, yellowfin tuna - all of that yuppie crap, but in aspiring Batman quantities. Just had two chicken thighs and some steamed broccoli for second lunch, if that gives you a general idea. I don’t eat quite enough vegetables though, so I need to bump that up. Dairy (excluding cottage cheese and whey) and grains are minimum to non-existent, but I do eat my oatmeal (w/ blueberries & walnuts) on a daily basis. I keep my carb intake from bread and cereals under 100g a day though.
Also you have the best username ever.

Well, the nice thing about using the Costco/Sam’s fish oil is that I don’t have to pay for it. My parents buy it for themselves, my grandmother and assorted old people in China - if I tried to get my mom to pick up the tab for Flameout, she’d probably scowl at me and tell me Flameout just had a nicer bottle and a higher price. This is compounded by that fact that I have no income of my own because I’m still in high school and my parents would rather I focus on my schoolwork than making seven dollars an hour. If I get the chance I will look into it though, people keep saying good things about it.

Yup, I’ve been eating a bunch every two hours. I know I’m doing something right, I was doing every three but I started getting hungry enough that I bumped it up. Roughly 8-10 hours of sleep a night as well. What protein powder do you favor? Metabolic Drive Complete has more carbs, but a blend of proteins, as opposed to just whey in Grow! Whey. Regular Metabolic Drive has the least carbs and looks the best to me right now, but doesn’t come in the quantity Grow! Whey does - I’m looking for a balance between quality, quantity and price (aren’t we all?) and input about the three would be great. Additionally, doesn’t creatine lead to water retention? I’m hoping to avoid that, but I don’t know much about the topic. Could you educate me?
I should have clarified earlier about finances - I don’t have to pay for food (and my mom has a general disposition towards organic/free-range/etc in general, which is good), but shoveling all that additional food into my mouth on a regular basis has increased our grocery bill, which irks her. She’s willing to cover protein powder, but I think I would have to cover anything beyond that, which I can do right now. Currently I’m eying regular Metabolic Drive, Surge and maybe creatine - is this less than ideal? Would having both Surge and creatine be redundant? Thanks to everyone for being so helpful and supportive, this scrub really appreciates it.

Don’t sweat the carbs, looking at your photo, all you need to worry about is eating.
