What Are You Reading?

This wasn’t actually his fault. Lol. We went for track shoes. We shop at a local shoe store that does the whole deal. They get you the shoes, put them on for you etc. Someone that we know showed up and came over to chat. And never stopped. She literally kept interrupting the salesman and completely derailing him. What should have taken one hour turned into 3. It was bad enough that my husband actually text me to ask if we were ok. My kids and husband are very similar to you with clothes. Only difference is that they are all shop online capable. I just get told when replacements are needed and I order. They couldn’t care less what they look like or what brand they are as long as it fits. I take them both shoe shopping more than anything. They usually get 2 or 3 new pairs of running shoes per year. My oldest will put 500-600 miles on a pair in about 4 months. They youngest lasts a bit longer because he doesn’t run quite the distance that the other runs. It’s a good thing they don’t require much in the realm of clothes cause the cost of running shoes is killing me.
I really need to start taking advantage of our local library. I purchase way too many books and I really need to start purging my stuff.
I’m glad your librarian was kind enough to allow you to check out. :joy:

I generally prefer physical books to audiobooks, and am fortunate to live in a university town with good used bookstores selling almost anything (except extremely new releases) for under five bucks.

I saw several new books I would have liked to skim, but did not think they were worth forty bucks to buy new. I was pleasantly surprised to learn Spotify has a large selection of free audiobooks (included for paying users) including most of the new books I wanted. Their selection is huge.

Kind of like with clothes, I always joke with my wife “If men were not married, they would have zero decorations, pillows, little fake flowers and all that random decorative stuff all over, pictures, etc. & many would basically be satisfied living in a cardboard box. We just let ya’ll decorate things to keep ya’ll happy, but we could care less. Give me a toilet, shower, fridge, tv, bed, something to sit on & I’m golden….and actually if it’s a couch or comfy chair, that can easily satisfy the bed need.” Us men don’t need much, but women “civilize” us.

With clothes, as long as it’s a shirt, shorts (I am always hot, so I wear short year round), flip flops (ugh, shoes if I have to) and it fits, I’m good. My wife says without her influence I’d only wear camo, green, black, charcoal, and blue. I’d have clothes that all looked the same haha. Sometimes when we’re getting ready to go somewhere, I’ll come downstairs and she’ll be sitting in the kitchen, and see me and just shake her head (sometimes it’s laughter) and she’ll just point me back upstairs while telling me all that’s wrong with what I’ve thrown on. I mean, I WAS comfortable, so what’s the big deal? LOL

Finished “Relic” last night, which was actually the first in the Preston & Child series, and it was great! About to now fast forward “back” to where I was in the series and am now reading “Fever Dream”. Received an email last night from my library, they now have in holding the next book after fever dream….Excellent [cue Mr. Burns].

Also, in reference to shoes, did you know that you can buy Nike Shox again? They have them on their website and I bought 2 pairs a few months ago…they are just as comfortable as I remember them, and I had several pairs years ago when they first came out. Not sure if you or your sons have ever worn them, but if not, I highly recommend them as they are extremely comfortable.

My youngest loves the ON Cloudrunner. The oldest is currently into the Nike. I can’t remember which one specifically, but it’s one of the most expensive. Go figure. He loves them for road running, but not a fan for cross country running. So now I have to buy him Brooks for cross country, Nikes for track and spikes for each. Good thing that boy never wants new clothes. I would be a broke bitch. Lol. Working my way through book 2. It would be great if I could find some time to just sit and read. I also started listen to Dungeon Crawler Carl while I’m on walks. That book is pretty good. Very entertaining. And I like the narrator.

Husband and I started a Dean Koontz on Sunday during a road trip, and were both initially repelled by the narrator. But once he got going and we’d increased speed to 1.15, we all settled in and were able to suck through half the book.

Now we have to find another several hours to listen before Libby sucks the book back on Saturday.

Which one?

The Husband. Libby had it available on audio and neither of us had read it.

Hmmm. I think I have that book but haven’t read it. Let me know if you like it.

Finished The Tin Men by Nelson/Alex DeMille. Utter nonsense and I loved every minute of it.
Listening to the first book, Ghostwalkers in the Deadlands series by Jonathan Maberry. Not sure where it’s going but at least it’s not a DNF like the last three books I’ve sent back.:rofl:

The lady behind me to get on the flight today had book 5 of Dungeon Crawler Carl. About a 60-year-old, well-dressed white lady. Not who I’d imagine to be the target reader. I was listening to book 6. We got to talking about the series and how funny it is. She isn’t a gamer but loves the action and humor. Her son got her to read it, as mine did.

I’m currently listening to book one. I listen while I walk so I look like a psychopath laughing to myself walking down the street alone. The cat kills me.

I keep checking though.

Has anyone read the print version? And @doogie and @BethB, would it be good for 12-year-olds? I’m wondering if it would be a good choice for my family’s secret society book club. I don’t pick the book until September, but if anyone has suggestions, I’m open!

In other news, I’m having to abandon a Jodi Picoult. I’ve had mixed feelings about her always (I think she uses cheap plot twists to end her books) but I’ve generally had no complaint about the writing. I’m 20% through this one and just can’t seem to give a shit about anything I’m reading. So into the bin it goes.

Not sure what’s next.

I’m not sure. Probably not. There is a lot of cussing and some inappropriate sexual comments. I do recommend that you listen to it though. It’s very funny.

There is adult language and a lot of violence, but no actual sex or anything like that. Nothing 12-year-old boys don’t say every day. A random Stephen King book would be more INappropriate.

Also probably true.
