What Are You Reading?

Crazy isn’t it? I have enjoyed the series so far.

I like the Amos Decker series as well. Love the Camel Club though. Oliver Stone is one of favorite assassins… lol

It was a toss up between the new Atlee Pine (Mercy) and Dark Intercept. The reviews for Mercy were anything but merciful, and the reviews for Dark Intercept were great. I will probably grab Mercy next month.

I too read for entertainment. Nothing wrong with that.

Read all those, agreed.

King & Maxwell series I really liked as well, but admittedly I watched the TV series first, and picturing Rebecca Romjin as the protagonist brought the character to life in more vivid fashion lol.

I read IT close to 20 years ago and I’ve never forgotten that scene. It’s a different kind of fucked up, haha.

Oh yeah, I doubt I will either. I meant the other ones. I don’t think I’ll hold the image of seed drying on thighs in my head for life. Who knows though. Weird stuff sticks with people.

I’ll amend my statement - I’ve never forgotten the gist of that scene. I can’t tell you anyone’s names or exactly what happened, but I know some stuff went down with some kids that was not kosher, and it was Stephen King who made me picture it in my head while I read the words. The fact that I read a bunch more of his books, and finished that one, is a testament to how good of a storyteller he is.

For sure. I said it in some thread a few days ago, probably this one, that I read five of his books in a row earlier this fall. I probably got through them all in a couple of weeks, I enjoyed them so much.

I thought The Shining did an awesome job showing the mind of an addict, and also the minds of those who love/live with addicts, which is something I can relate to, and did relate to as I read the book. King has first hand experience there but it was neat for me to actually read someone’s “experience” while living that, and not just seeing it talked about in scientific terms in a textbook or something.

“How emotions are made” - Lisa Feldman Barret

I have read all of the Jesse Stone novels, Jack Reacher novels, the early Dean Koontz stuff, James Patterson books too, Smoke Jensen novels old mountain man character, when I was a kid I read all if the tarzan novels

I can never wait long enough for the next books of the series to come out

I really enjoyed the Tarzan series around 10-12 years old. I’ve been meaning to give them another shot one of these days. Probably not quite up to today’s standards but oh well.

Read them all when I was young; also remember the Doc Savage series from that time as well.

Heart of Darkness By Joseph Conrad.

I remember reading, but not fully grasping, this novel in Highschool. Second time around as an adult I can confidently say that this is probably one of the better books I read this year. I think my reading goal for 2022 will be to re-read everything from highschool english…except The Great Gatsby

I reread this about every two years. One of my favorite novels. Kurtz is such an intriguing character.

I’m considering starting a thread asking what people think should be required reading - could be books on history, politics, classic literature, new stuff that they think has made an impact, etc. I think there was one about that a long time ago but posters have come and gone and there’s a lot of fairly new people in this thread who may have suggestions.

@Chris_Colucci - would it be cool if I started a new one? or should I just bump the old one if I can find it

Sort of similar thread here

Just finished this earlier today on the plane ride home from visiting in-laws in Arizona.

I’d never seen that one, thanks!

Finally finished Madhouse at the End of the Earth (was reading interspersed with other books).

Starting Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr

Just finished Crossroads. Franzen earns a lot of flack for his character and writing, but I must say this was a real page-turner.

I don’t think I’ll finish these before the year ends, but I am starting

All You Can Ever Know by Nicole Chung

How Music Works by David Byrne

Just finished The Maidens by Alex Michaelides

Starting The Windsor Knot by SJ Bennett

According to my Goodreads log, I read 130 books in 2021 - this may sound impressive but really it just amounts to a whole lot of psychological thrillers and chick-lit, because I’m shallow like that… Escapism at it’s best!

And here I thought I read a lot with 85 books in 2021!
