What Are You Reading?

:rofl::joy::rofl::joy:

I have read that one in the past. Don’t typically like self help type books but that one is excellent.

Starting a book I’ve been itching to read for too long – Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood.

About 5 chapters deep into ā€œNapoleon Bonaparteā€ by Alan Schom … Napoleon seems like a very driven young man, so far, with a bright future … can’t wait to see what happens next :slight_smile:

The First Conspiracy by Brad Meltzer.

I have a habit of reading multiple books at the same time… I might have one in the kitchen, one by my bedside, one in my work bag,… and progress through them all at varying paces depending on my daily routines -lol.

Same … I’m wrapping up metamorphoses right now which I mentioned earlier up, also reading napoleon biography, some chess books, and slogging my way through the bible (currently in proverbs)

One of the best but most difficult to understand all the lessons in books.

I’m not religious, but definitely appreciate religious texts as literary treasures. My brother is into Arabic culture/history and tried to read a translation of the Quran. Literally EVERY other sentence had at least 2 paragraphs of footnotes explaining the possible meanings and alternate translations. Just shows you the sheer depth and complexity behind seemingly simple words

I don’t think that’s a ā€œreligious textā€ thing, so much as a ā€œthis was written a really, really long time ago by people with an entirely different grasp of language and cultureā€ thing.

True. I mean you could literally write a book about some 10 character long quote from confucius

I was thinking Shakespeare as my prime example, but yeah, plenty of others out there. Even something as matter of fact and factual as Julius Ceasers writings are open to plenty of interpretation.

Part of the problem with confucius’s ā€œwritingsā€ is that they were pre- paper so either written on silk (extremely, extremely expensive) or carved into bamboo scrolls (very very hard and heavy) => extreme economy of words
