Actually I’m sort of in a bind. My mom insists on buying me something. She called today and gave me the whole “if you could think of something to blow a couple hundred bucks on, what would it be?” question, but I honestly don’t have any idea.

It sounds lame, but I swear I’ve been stuck in a hole or something. I can’t think of anything to buy. I actually walked around a couple of stores to try to get ideas, but it’s just not coming to me. Any suggestions?
Then we drive up to Scotland and my fiancee gets the chance to go quietly insane at my mothers’ house. However at least there is room to swing a cat, peace and quiet, scenic countryside and horses to ride.

So is “swing the cat” some kind of code for sex? I really can’t figure out what else it could be, and I’m sure you don’t literally swing a cat (unless you really do go insane).
No, I’m quite sure it’s literal. [see accompanying pic]. The Scots are crazy.

[edit] posted before seeing Bushi’s post. Apparently some Scots take it literally.

i have heard the phrase “enough room to swing a cat” before. i’m not English, but i guess from the first time i heard it, i literally just imagined someone grabbing a cat by the tale*, and swinging that motherfucker aroud in a circle. hence, youd really want a radius of a good couple of feet, or a meter for the Brits, in order to not hit anyone or anything with that cat you’re swinging. in other words, enough room to be comfortable, without people “all up in your grill”.

*i do not condone animal cruelty. i’m also not a big fan of cats.

Because it is better to give than to receive, I would like to give, to JustTheFacts,

–a ball-gag,

My mom buys me things for Christmas, but I never ask for anything. I enjoy getting my vacation in during Christmas. I also enjoy making it back home safely, with my family. Everything else means nothing to me. I normally keep a few things she might buy…shoes, clothes…everything else normally goes back, and the money goes to get something for my twin girls. They enjoy material items more than me. My wife knows not to buy me anything, I get enough during the year…supps, workboots, etc…daily living items.

I’m honestly considering asking for half a grassfed cow from the local farm.

I just received a $350 bursary from the university, which brightened my mood. Probably the best gift this season, since I have no idea what to ask for and likewise nobody knows what to get me.

I’m crazy but I want this Kevin Staab board. I’ve wanted this board since I was 12, forgot about it/went out of manufacturing, and just found a replica.

Haven’t skated in years but it sounds so fun, being that I work downtown around lots of Pedestrian bridges and mad sidewalks. Besides its exercise for break time!!!

I’m always open for a Ducati 1098 though…
