Long story short, in September Defy let me try up to 200mg/week and it led to some anger issues. They dropped me back down to my original 150mg/week, and within a week, I started feeling like my old self again, and my libido even improved. This lasted for about 1-2 weeks.
Sometime mid last week, my libido and morning erections just collapsed, and I’ve fallen into this tired and depressed mood for no apparent reason. Weirdly enough, I finally got my diet and workout routine back on track too. Even weirder, my anxiety has been unusually low.
I’ve had issues with melatonin causing depression in the past, so I dropped that 3 days ago, and there’s been little/no improvement. Haven’t felt like leaving the house, and my motivation has just been slipping.
Thinking maybe it’s just the change in weather, but it’s hard to say. The lack of erections (despite having a couple really sexual dreams) is odd too.
Experience with TRT and this board have taught me I’d be best riding it out a couple more weeks before doing some bloodwork, but just curious if anyone has any thoughts on this in the meantime.
When my sleep gets bad for 3 or more days in a row I get very depressed and have all kinds of suicidal thoughts. Trazodone has helped me a ton. It’s much more effective than melatonin and doesn’t make you groggy in the morning if you don’t take a large dose.
I’ve actually had a script for a while but my PCP cut me off because I complained of anxiety (which lowering my T dose helped substantially with). Seeing a sleep specialist this week to try to get more.
That’s surprising. I was put on it because of anxiety. I also have ambien because sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with panic attacks. I just need a 1/4-1/2 pill of that and it knocks me out again.
At some point I want to try to get off of both now that I’m on TRT to see if my sleep will improve naturally.
I second @dextermorgan. I’ve been taking magnesium in many different forms before bed (ZMA and other mags) for years due to insomnia. Magnesium glycinate @ 360mg does the trick and way less taking in the body compared to pharms. My $0.02.
It could be just life getting you down! I had a small funk for a few weeks and had the same symptoms. I went from thinking about sex and having insane drive 24/7 to bleh… and thought something was screwed up with my trt. I got done the stressful period of Work I was going thru and bam it was back ! I would ride it out for a short while longer and see if it resolves itself.
@dell500@dextermorgan I take 400mg magnesium glycinate, along with 50mg Zinc before bed and find it noticeably helps my quality of sleep. The only thing I’m not sure is how often I should be taking these vitamins without threading a health risk. I have no idea so I just do Sunday and Wednesday nights.
@marcus007 I take mag gly daily at night. I’m not sure about the zinc cause my multi has 25mg and I eat a lot of meat/dairy. I just started taking iodine in drop form to see if that helps with sleep as well.
I have - it causes me to wake up suddenly. I’ve tried it multiple times Citrate works pretty well though.
I also did stop using this other asthma maintenance inhaler which apparently has a 44 hour half life and insomnia and heart palpitations as side effects. And depression. It’s been 4 days off, and my heart rate has definitely normalized a bit.
Yea, not trying to jump to any conclusions and start changing my dosing and stuff! Well I do start propionate this week, which I’m looking forward to trying.
I watched the Joe Rogan Matthew Walker podcast you recommended, and Matt claimed most people likely won’t benefit from Melatonin. Curious, why 2.5mg every night?
That’s interesting. It works well for me. Maybe most people have adequate natural melatonin levels?
There are studies showing anything over like .4mg is more than needed and will make you build a tolerance. Starting below that will keep from building a tolerance.
Yeah he said most have enough, but it can work well as a placebo. I’ll still give it a try for 30 days and see myself. I usually take 25mg Sunday nights if not sleepy since I stay up longer on the weekends.
