Weird Things You Have Seen at the Gym

Holy shit! Glad you’re alright.

As an aside, I had no idea how violent your hometown of Winnipeg has become. Just scanning through the local paper I read about 6-7 local assaults and a couple murders. Some of the cabbies I spoke to said there were areas in the city they wouldn’t go to under any circumstances.

I’m surprised, as I figured things would settle down after I’d left.

That part of town they won’t go is where I used to live. You could tell them it’s safe now.

Wow perfect timing with that video and Nard’s post. The other day this redneck was bench pressing, every set and rep after 225 looked like the video where 1 arm locked out and the other side of the bar was only a few inches from his chest and looked like he was stuck. My wife kept telling me to go help him but he eventually got the reps after being stuck for a few seconds. This idiot kept loading more weight and of course it got uglier each set. I stayed close since it looked like he would need help at some point. Finally it go to a point where I said fuck this he can either ask for a spot or get stuck I’m not helping him if hes that dumb. I was on the other side of the gym when he was doing another set and some guy finally went to help him on a rep. While stuck under the bar he yelled “DONT FUCKING TOUCH THE BAR I GOT IT”. He racked the weight (possibly on the lower pins since it was failed set) and got up and yelled at the guy some more. Closest I’ve seen to a possible fight starting at a gym. This guy sounded like larry the cable guy on steroids. After that he still did 1 more set with even more weight but failed to lockout and racked on the lower pins again.

I don’t understand those people sometimes. I think they learn best the hard way.

I saw two guys benching and one had taken the mentor role, and he was ‘training’ the other guy, making him go very slowly with 135 and pausing at the top for 2 or 3 seconds and again at the bottom and making this guy do 15 or more reps. This mentor was an older guy, about 50, and the other guy was about 30.

The older guy then got on and put 315 on the bar, but he was quite small and thin, so I stopped whatever I was doing, just in case.
The guy then unracked the bar and did 3 or 4 scapular rotations and put it back.

Another time I came in to see the cage had the bar loaded to like 405 so I was impressed and genuinely happy to see that. But then I noticed the safety pins (whatever they’re called) were set one hole below the rack pins…so the ROM was going to be an inch. The guy came back for his next set and then failed even more as he started to do the weirdest thing I’d seen in the gym…he got the bar on his back and then basically ‘vibrated’ up and down less than half an inch 30 or 40 times…the bar never even came close to going down to the pins one inch below.

LOL at being against “cliques” on this site…as if being “the guy against cliques” isn’t also now a clique as well. I swear I see just as many people around here making sure they point out that everyone else is “nutswinging” yet they seem to think this distinction puts them outside the drama…when it really puts them right in the middle.

The opposite of love is indifference…not caring so much about other people that you spend this much time in threads complaining about cliques.

next, the opposite of love is actually hate.
Actually, it isn’t. The opposite of caring is NOT caring. Hate requires emotion towards someone.

That is why the statement, “the opposite of love is apathy” is well known.

See, you get to learn something everyday.
EDIT

Nah, I was feeling indifferent today about something (apathy) and can’t let you think you taught (erroneously) someone something.

I don’t care how you heard your statement, but love is an emotion. The opposite of the emotion love is hate, at the opposite side of the continuum of emotion. The lack of “emotion” itself (which is neither love nor hate) is apathy. Your statement might be “well known”, but it is logically incorrect.

See, you get to learn something everyday!

Pretty sure we can all agree, even Rock, that this guy is a massive moron and deserves to be shit on for having horrid fucking judgement.

I don’t care if 135 is a warm up weight for him, one simple slip, one over-use injury finally popping on him, and his baby is dead.

Having a “cool” pic isn’t worth the risk of your child’s life.

I agree that baby pic is pretty dumb, especially since there is a hook on the front of the squat rack he could of just hung the baby on.

lol That would have been a way cooler pic.

There used to be a couple that walked around the gym HOLDING HANDS

Made me irrationally angryy.

I think they broke up.

Did they really or are we going to hear about an unidentified body buried in Wonder Woman’s back yard?

Well I have only ever seen the guy lately…

But naw not THAT irrationally angry… this was at five thirty a.m. workout time so my crankiness factor was probably amplified. I swear I never did more than roll my eyes at them!

Those Frank Yang videos are hilarious.

I do something unique at my gym that gets a lot of stares. Lets say I just finished all the sets of squats that I am doing for the day. The weird thing I do is I pull on the plates that are on the bar, then I find a place where other plates of the same weight are and I put in on the same stem thingy.

I kiss my girl at the gym all the time. She’s cute…cant help it

gonna go kiss her now

A big black guy with dyed silver hair kept giving me a weird look at the gym this one time.

To be fair though, I am a horse and I was being paid for sex at the gym that day.
