Weight Loss for a Cancer Patient

my mother is very young, 36, she was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 34, she had a double masectomy, chemo for 6 months and radiation for over a year and she has been on timoxafen (sp) for the past 6 months to lower the chances of reacurrence. she has always been a very very active woman, she is a triathelete, shes done the iron man mutiple times her PR is almost a flat 10 hrs.

she organises her own triathelon depending on the yr and ehr condition. we are also a very nutrition concious family. this cancer has hit her self esteem very very very hard, shes always been a beautiful woman, but losing your hair and losing your full DD breasts gaining 30 lbs and looking 10 yrs older can put a damper on your self esteem when you on 36.

she grew her hair back, got implants, and she got like a lifetime supply of top brand name makeup, so all that is left to take care of is her weight issue. she hasnt been as strong as she always has been since her shemo and radiation but she has gotten back in the swing of things, she stopped taking the timoxafen because it makes you gain weight ( dont give me greaf about her stopping, shes a grown woman and can make her own desicions).

so she works out daily, she doubles up on 2 of the “tris” either between swiming biking and running, she also throws in free weights 3 times a week, she gets plenty of sleep. i looked at her diet (she writes it all down) and shes getting about 1.5k cals a day and still gaining weight, i told her that she needs to go see a speacialist, maybe and endocrinologist. but she wants to try this on her own a little longer, she very independant.

well now that you all know a background on her my question is, does anyone know of a supplement that will aid her fat loss? it cant do anything to her hormones and it CANNOT do anything to her heart, she already has heart palpatations and she is in a very fragile state since cancer as far as both hormones and heart are concerned. any advice about any new supplement or old for that matter that will help her out a little. thank you all

sry for all the spelling errors, thanks again

before cancer 5 4 125 lbs
weight yesterday 161 lbs

Fish oil if she ain’t on it already. That’s about as safe as it gets.

Wishing her all the best.

Se7en is non-hormonal. As is Carbolin 19. I’d say HRX but it’s a stimulant so something she should maybe about. Best of luck to her.

Acetyl L-Carnitite aids fat loss and actually BENEFITS the heart. Hope she does well. I have many more suggestions if you want to PM me. All the best to her!

I’m not trying to sound like a jerk, but maybe she isn’t eating enough. She is working out everyday, lifting, running, swimming, biking, etc. and only eating 1500 cal. We wouldn’t suggest someone eat that little if they were healthy, so we wouldn’t want to restrict calories in a person with health problems.

Same thing applies to long slow steady state cardio. She’s doing running/biking or biking/swimming etc. everyday? If a regular gym goer said that, we would be telling them to not do that because it is going to cause more catabolism then fat loss, which would in turn wreck her metabolism.

Is she in remission now? OK’d by the doc to workout? all that stuff. Then the same rules apply, except no stims (for heart) and no hormonal stuff.

Best of luck to her.

Edit: If I do sound like a jerk, sorry, I’m a little jaded, my father died from pancreatic cancer.

Sorry to hear. She probably already eats these but spinach, broccoli, carrots, garlic, and tons of citrus fruit. Also, if she can take iron supps, they help fight cancer but not if her blood is normal. And she probably already uses flax oil–but it might be too much for her heart. Also, 1500mg calcium and lots of vitamin D. Goodluck.
