Weighing Food Cooked or Not?

when measuring food . an ounce of chickenhas approximately 7 grams protein. is it measured after its cooked? same for a potato? i know rice is after, cause precooked weight and post cooked is a huge difference…just want to make sure my calories are correct. thanks

I was under the impression that all foods are weighed prior to cooking, including rice.

most places (fitday I know for sure) has options for both weights. I prefer to do my weights raw.

Consistency is what is important. I weigh meats, veg, rice etc cooked; oats, protein shakes etc without adding water/cooking etc.

You can’t go cooked one day, raw another - just pick one and stick with it, else you won’t know where to adjust.

Fuckin hell, why don’t edits work?

I tried to post this example earlier to help you get a reference point for your guide…

10oz RAW chicken breast:
312 calories, 62.2g protein

10z COOKED chicken breast:
468 calories, 87.9g protein

If your reference uses raw weights, it probably consistently uses raw weights, and vice versa.

thanks, i was looking for the amount of protein in one ounce cooked and one ounce raw…thanks bro…

www.calorieking.com isn’t a bad resource that doesn’t require you to sign up

X2 calorieking is very helpful

I like to do my weighing of my foods the same way I do my deadlifts and squats. Raw, baby! I just find raw to be more accurate because different amounts of water can still be in the food depending on how long you cook it whereas raw weights of foods will always be consistent with your foods.

I had been weighing cooked food. Thanks for the info.
