No don’t legalise it.
I’ve seen what some you say that weed has little social harm. This is not true. Weed, if legalized would threaten the quality and effectiveness of education. You’d have kids smoking blunts with their Glee loving posses whilst ignoring the books more and more. Their work ethic would likely deteriorate, their ambitions and their minds would follow suite. Imagine the normal 13yo smokin a tin whilst watching American Idol and bangin’ out a Kris Allen CD. That shit don’t mix and that kid is going to be in trouble, in a variety of ways.
People will lose concentration and begin overdosing on the drug. Thats going to cause a number of problems. And because of its idolization by Hollywood and its sudden legalization a large number of people are going to start going on it.
We got to remember that weed is a recreational drug. Bluntely, people smoke it to get the high and reduce stress. You don’t smoke weed with the mind set that its going to improve your health (although through studies it may have been found and cemented that in the long-term by its ability to lower blood pressure/etc weed may be beneficial to ones health). Theres going to be side effects and some negative shit. Effects on brian cells, tumors, lungs etc. Basically the only reason to legalize it would be the argument on its revenue generation.
Furthermore, the excessive weed consumption will lead to increases in overall food consumption. We all know that weed makes you hungry after you smoke it. You get the munchies. I had a friend who was on mushroom and weed. The motherfucker started eating everything in his fridge. He had to make himself vomit before he went to bed to cleanse that feeling of extreme bloating. Bottom line is resources will be depleted and people will start becoming fat fucks. Thats got its own array of problems.
In addition legalization will not mean the end all for a black market. Drug enthusiasts will spend many a night, full on red bull, Doritos and as much drugs as possible on creating weed enhancements. Some kind of weed-like drug you cant buy from stores. This may lower revenues. Plus people will sell weed under the table anyways, even ith legalization.
Finally, possibly the strongest argument with relations to weed is its ‘starter drug’ characteristic. Need I tell you that with this abundant supply of weed people are going to become bored and look for better shit. Putting my self in a imaginary situation, I know I would. I’ve been in my room smokin weed everyday after school that I bought from the store and now im getting bored and anxious to start something else thats going to blow my mind (I want it blown, dude). Weed revenues may start to fall as other illegal drug markets see increases in their size. That fella concocted P (Ice) in his basement is going to get a lot more knocks on his door. So is Vinnie the ecstasy guy. Or how about Javier and his cocaine peoples.
Don’t give me this shit about gangs losing money and going bust. They show their dirty faces wherever the money action is. Legalize weed and they’ll just tap into the other profitable drug markets where they can make a buck.
So people, decreased social welfare; dumber kids, retarded adults, fatter people and greater emphasis on drugs overall is whats at stake here. Before Californians or anyone else votes think about this and think about the dealers. They are also the losers. Utilize what you have, don’t legalize.[/quote]
i dont think any of this will happen at all (although the idea of the entire country with the munchies is hilarious)
in all the different places i have lived in the US, weed has been right around the corner. i cant even think of a time, even in high school, where people around couldn’t find it. if people want to get it, they do. its that easy. so the main difference will be people buying it from stores, which we now have in CA. yes, people will underhandedly sell it to young teens, but it will be no different from the way we got booze in high school, and it will be no more available to them than it already is. tons of teenagers smoke weed all the time.
i stopped smoking it years ago, but lots of my friends are potheads. i know TONS of doctors who smoke all the time, and it has never led them “through the gate” to other drugs.
the amount of tax revenue from it will be huge, and it will be decriminalized, so that respectable, otherwise law-abiding citizens can simply purchase it like the adults they are. they should be able to buy it because they are adults consuming a drug for their recreation, just like alcohol.
btw, it sounds like you have never smoked weed in your life…or done any drugs for that matter.
