I recently purchased a domain and some webspace, and I’m working on building my own website. So far I’ve just been writing everything in HTML, of course it’s very simple since I’m a beginner. My goal for the site is to put up pics and pdf files of various things that I’m interested in.
Any web designers out there? What do you recommend for a beginner? What programs do you use? I’d love to see some examples of your work too. I have some friends who can put together some decent websites, and it’s cool to see someone’s work and be able to attach a site to a face, or in this case a cryptic online persona. Thanks!
I can’t really show you anything since I don’t design websites, but my job involves creating and extending a Content Management System which automatically generates HTML, CSS, etc for you and gives your client a nice user interface to update its pages.
Thanks for the info Joris. I hadn’t heard of CSS before. Are you familiar with the LaTeX text editing system? CSS seems like a the web design equivalent. Is this accurate? I’m definitely going to check this stuff out.
I’m using linux right now, but I think PSPad runs in Wine. I’ll have to give it shot.
CSS is important when it comes to web designing. Your project does not seem to difficult to build compared to running an online store. You can also purchase a template which you would only have to insert the content. Template monsters is an example where you could find some.
