I do remember that Saturday morning cartoons seemed to follow a pattern…old stuff (which at the time I thought was crap but later loved…like Rocky and Bullwinkle) was on early…then the good stuff started at 9AM…with the best stuff from 10 to 11…then a trickle off till by noon “Sewing with Nancy” and some goddamned auto racing or golf was on CBS.
And kevinm1 you’re right…I remember sort of liking The Smurfs when I was 9 or so, but by the time they went to 90 bloody minutes I was ‘too old’ for them.

Then after lunch they had Kung Fu Cinema/Theater and or Wrestling. Right after that around 2:30 or 3, we’d all go outside and practice what we learned on tv that afternoon.
Now stand right there so I can kick you on the cheek - don’t move Nards ok man.
AGHHH - I wonder, did the creators have to actually watch their own work?
Oh and for the Jeebus guys - Anybody have to watch the claymotion with Davy and Goliath?
Gumby for the loss.
Gumby and Davy both at least have excuses those where 70’s and possible 60’s
At least the 60’s Marvel cartoons where made directly from the comic book(like literally they cut the characters out and moved them around)
These cartoons also had a guy dressed as Cap who would introduce the cartoon and answer fan mail unfortunetly(or not) the video I’ve seen is lost to time
Man, I loved that shit when I was a kid, watched it all the time. And for nostalgia purposes, yeah, still awesome. But watch a few episodes and and put aside the nostalgia and tell me it wasn’t crap…
Actually what was funny was that the theme song and characters voice was ghey as hell, but they didn’t cut out the scenes with lots of violence and blood as much as they did in the american version… You’d think it was the other way around
Haha!
I loved DragonBallZ! I hated the theme song in French. Very monotone. And boring. Still bores me till this day.
I’ve watched a couple of episodes recently and I couldn’t help chuckling and shaking my head at the ridiculousness of the dialogue and scenes.
WTF, ZEN WARRIOR??
LOL!
Damn, owned by the quote function! But if you’ve seen DBZ in both French and English, you know this is true. Weird, but true
I think you guys need to realize that the 80’s and 90’s had a great variety of cartoons. For every lame cartoon (He-man), you had bad ass cartoons (Thundercats).
Be glad you’re not watching the current class of cartoons: Zoids, Yu-Gi-Oh, Sonic X, and other Japanese scraps that were sent to us.
But, we also have great cartoons: Samurai Jack, Avengers, Young Justice, Spectacular Spider-Man(RIP), Marvel/DC animated movies, and Avatar.
If we can have a thread that involves nothing but cat pics and discussion about cooking blueberry muffins, we can have a thread about Soul Train damnit!

The episode where Gargamel gave the Smurfs poisoned berries and they turned into purple evil Smurfs gave me shivers as a kid.
