We Can Rebuild It: How Would You Revamp T-Nation?

I love the site mainly because of the articles and also the forums. But since Indigo-3 came out the direction of the site seems to have really shifted, which is odd because you don’t see this with any of the other supplements. I liked when there were (almost daily) spills/short articles/comments/updates from Shugart and Thibs. I liked Shugart’s Hammer, or Atomic Dog, and just short little interesting things like this.

Now it seems like these contributors are caught up in these massive, hard-to-follow livespills which are completely aimed at Indigo-3 users. It seems like they’re spending a lot of time working on it and helping people out which is commendable, but these guys had a broader audience when they were doing regular updates and articles that were aimed at all Tnation readers not just Indigo-3 users.

I don’t want to whine too much. It’s not like I’m going to go elsewhere because of the overall quality of articles. Sometimes people forward me fitness articles from Men’sHealth or similar sites and it’s simply awful. No comparison. T-Nation and EliteFTS are great, and then there’s lots of junk.
They’re focusing their time on the folks who are spending the most money, I believe. At $160 a jar Indigo-3 is the most elite supplement simply based on price.

It makes sense.

I couldn’t care less about the livespells. Tried to follow a couple of times but, eh.

I cannot stomach Anaconda or MAG-10: the seem like good products if you can handle them.

I wish they would update the instructions on products, like the timing on the BCAAs and Luecine

The quality of the articles over the past few months have been excellent in providing a range of training techniques from the basic movements to new things to try. Ignore the livespill/indigo 3 corner of the front page and there is quality in the middle. Better than it had been and much appreciated.

Ignore the livespill/indigo stuff.

The quality and range of articles over the past few months have been excellent.

GAL is a bit tired. That happens.

I can’t think of a better way to take useful conversation/information and make it completely unavailable to anyone not directly following the spill or trying to reference it later.
This x 9000

It SUCKS if you try and read it after it’s a few questions in.

Agreed. That is absolutely the worst thing they have ever done to this site. It is the one and only thing I truly dislike. Although I post ever so often in the Livespill after an article, I do not follow it as it’s impossibly annoying.

Quite frankly I am amazed that anyone can deal with it at all.
This is an honest question: what exactly do you find confusing about the spill? I think it’s a really convenient way of communicating with the authors and administrators on this site.
It’s a hot mess.

In a regular thread, like it used to be, everything is pieced out and easy to identify/read. It’s easier to sit through the bullshit. The livespills are too homogenized and it’s hard to tell who is actually worth paying attention to at first glance. Then, if you do see something, there’s no connection between posts. Here we have quotes, so you can clearly see the question and answer at once. In the spills, you’ll see:

bullshit
bullshit
question
bullshitbullshit
question
question
question
bullshit
answer to question 1
bullshit
question
question
answer to question 2
bullshit
question
part 2 of answer to question 2
bullshit
question
question
part 3 of answer to question 2
answer to question 3

And so on.

It’s incredibly hard to read through. If you see a good question, you have to find the answer. If you see an interesting answer, good luck finding the question.

It’s like twitter thunderdome.

Agreed. I’ve always considered the ‘perks’ offered to I-3G users to be just part of the package.

I think it’s getting a bit ridiculous around here, and not in a good way either. :-/

 • Better Forum Moderation remove posts that are completely off-topic/senseless arguing no matter who the posters are. It’s the one way to start getting this site to a place where intelligent conversation can go on without people being here just for the lulz. They’ll get bored and leave once their one-line posts and pictures are being removed as off-topic. Which is a very good thing unless you prefer quantity of quality of visitors which means you’ve already lost sight of what was once great about the website.

 • Livespill / Indigo-nation. When is enough enough? It costs a lot sure, it’s great that you’re offering support to the purchasers but surely you’ve beat the topic to death by now and it would be a million times easier to have just done a series of articles then keep answering questions day in day out.

 • Articles have gone extremely down hill since CT and Shugs have been caught up in the Indigo-nation stuff… You need them posting articles because they have a rapport with the readers and I guess you know that because you are essentially using them as an effective marketing tool for the indigo “buy that and have access to one of the best coaches in the world”. It will hurt your business in the long term. Also I know Nate wanted to leave, but he was a great writer and you need someone of his calibre in the mix.

If someone is such a juvenile douche their posts have to be individually moderated they should just be banned. That would clean up the forums significantly. Give them one warning and then get rid of them if they don’t get the message. Same for trolling with multiple IDs, only forget about the warning.

If it is just a account ban there’s nothing from stopping that person making a second account, so if there is a ban system it should be via ip but even that’s hard to manage.
