Hey guys, im looking for an easy to consume carbohydrate that will just allow me to pump alot of calories in, and that isn’t a simple sugar, i got reccomended by a friend to look into Maltrodextrin but i heard about WMS and im wondering if it might be better for this purpose or worse, (this is not for PWO nutrition, just for during the day for extra calories) any help is appriciated,
Cheers
Maltodextrin and waxy maize have very high glycemix indexes. I have no idea why one wants to “pump a lot of calories in” with these sources unless they had ENORMOUS workloads and couldn’t gain weight on less than 5,000 calories a day.
There other calorically dense foods and meals you can make that don’t induce so much fullness:
All nut butters
Olive and canola oil based mayonnaise
All nuts
Cheeses
Full-fat yogurt
Whole eggs
Higher-fat red meat
Dried fruit, raisins
Turkey bacon
You can make a 1,000+ calorie shake containing healthy ingredients such as protein powder, fruit, flax seeds, nuts or nut butters, flaxseed, coconut, and canola oil, oatmeal, yogurt, skim milk powder, cottage cheese, and so on if you really needed that many calories.
Actually, come to think of it, it’s so god-damned easy to make 800 to 1,000+ calorie meals that go down easy!

Doesn’t druid fruit have a very high GI also? I used to have it PWO with my whey protein to spike the GI. You listed a lot of good fat choices, although I believe he’s looking for carbs. I like using oats/ground oats for shakes – it isn’t exactly delicious but it’s def not bad. I’ll add a banana with it depending how many carbs I need.
On a side note, have you read JB’s stance on canola oil? He recommends to avoid it like the plague, lol.
Yup, I’ve read what Dr. Bowden has written on canola oil and I’m still not avoiding like the plague. Why? I don’t know. Perhaps because I think I give a shit enough about nutrition and make a stink over my diet enough to the point where I don’t feel like being worried about EVERYTHING! I don’t stay away from microwaves and I don’t fret over the mercury content in tuna and I don’t stay away from artificial sweeteners. I consume a diet full of fruit, meat (fish, shellfish, pork, innards, beef, poultry), grains, veggies, and healthy fats (oils, nuts, avocados, olives) and dairy (yogurt and cottage cheese). I don’t consume all these items in such variety everyday, but I think I do pretty darn good with my diet (not perfect). So having small amounts of canola oil doesn’t phase me. Maybe it should!
The OP asked for suggestions on CALORIES; he didn’t specify where he wants those calories from. Some dried fruits have a high glycemic index. I don’t recall all; I have to go check. But fruits ae nutrient dense. What can be said about waxy maize and maltodextrin other than being good for ultra-high-glycemic carbs after a workout? Not much, if anything.
Yeah, I listed mostly fat items. But I also wanted to point out that it’s not hard to make ultra-calorie meals and shakes with some of these items added to them. If you really wanted to throw caution to the wind, you could make a 1,000 calorie breakfast with whole eggs, cheese, whole-grain bread, butter, potatoes, and whole cream for coffee. But only HUGE people and those with raging metabolisms (genetics, ultra-high workload) really need to eat like that (eg, Michael Phelps).

Where did that come from? Little angry about something?
OP, if you want to bump up calories, do what the other people are saying and increase the fat intake. For general health, you’re going to want to stick with low GI carbs like the ones previously mentioned. I wouldn’t suggest basically downing sugar in order to do something that could taste a lot better. lol
All I am going to say on this issue is… Waxy Maize gives me the shits… never fails every time I take it. My vote is for Maltodextrin or a double dose of Surge.

I certainly did not catch any angry undertones in his post… You need only look at the 1g protein/lb thread if you want to see Brick angry!
I think people misinterpret Bricks energy/excitment (use of !) as angry yelling or ranting. I mean… he was leather face for Halloween last year but hes a nice a guy.

I hear you on this. But I did find that not every brand had this effect. I had to try several before I found one that worked well with my body. Not sure what the main difference was. Each was supposed to be just unflavored WMS, but my body could tell a difference.
thanks for the responses guys, yeah i actually did mean carbs not fat, i eat my fat later in the day, but i wanted to get in more carbs during it, ive decided to go with the suggestion of grinding up oats, and adding it to shakes, surprised i havent though of that before, also went n ordered some WMS for PWO, we’ll see how that goes
