Water Intoxication

G’day, I’ve got an important question regarding when someone should be concerned they’re drinking too much water.
Normally ill drink 6-7 L of water a day and that works fine for me but right now i’m doing the Shredded In 6 Days program and part of it requires drinking A LOT of water to flush your system. I have been drinking 14 L a day and i’m 170 pounds (77 k) and wondering if thats a dangerous amount considering the program tells you not to worry about sodium levels. The reason I ask is because I am feeling dizzy (which could just be the cutting of carbs) and am also just curious.
Cheers,
Andrew

I’m not a doctor but that seems absurdly high. Too much water can get you to the point where your electrolytes reach dangerously low levels, a potentially fatal condition known as hyponaltremia. It’s very difficult to reach that point, but it’s possible.

yeah man, I thought 2-4 liters was the norm for someone around your weight, maybe not, but agreed 14 liters sounds a little ridiculous especially if you made this jump over night

Yeah thanks for the responses. I read up on it and the main concern is drinking too much quickly and Paulie this is only for the week i’m cutting i know long term its dangerous and not beneficial. I’ve experienced its effectiveness as far as cutting goes and its great, i was just wondering if anyone knows if its a definite hazard waiting to happen.

fucking hell, 14 litres a day? You’ve got something very wrong

yep, thats a dangerous amount

The program also says to drink 2.5 - 3 gallons (about 9.5 - 11 liters). You’re drinking even more, why, exactly?

Or it could be a warning sign of serious damage on the way. Darwin is looking up your number in the phone book, dude. Expect a call soon.

False.

This guy died after drinking 10 liters over 8 hours.

You’re drinking 14 liters over probably 12 - 14 hours, which is a close enough rate of hyperhydration that I’d change things immediately.

I think I know where the 14 litres came from.

3 US gallons = 11.4 litres
3 Imperial gallons = 13.6 litres

Ya know what? How’s about you and the Australian OP take your fancypants metric system and GTFO. This is 'Merica. Fuck yeah. And I count in 'Merican.

(But yeah, I guess that could be confusing the issue a bit.)

Actually, BOTH metric and imperial are used here, which makes matters confusing as hell. Not sure what gallons are used here, since it could be either. Not that any gallon is a proper unit anyway…

Its confusing having two different gallon measurements. I dont even use it and its confusing.

Most of the health-gurus(that I have read) that push absurd amounts of water advocate putting a pinch of natural sea-salt in every liter.

Since you are feeling dizzy I would both cut back on your water intake and try a pinch of natural sea-salt.

Before you even ask:
Pinch = 1/8 teaspoon

And what is it with ounces being either a measure of weight or of volume?
