SNL has had lots of world leaders on covering lots of pressing issues. And not everyone likes Stewart or thinks he treated them fairly.

And maybe the guys at fox hate him because Stewart is so openly biased against them.

Just working from recent memory, he bashed fox for their parent company contributing 1 million to republicans. He never mentioned that fox not only also contributes to dems, but that they are much more even handed in their donations that any other network all of whom are outrageously biased to DEMS. Overall networks donations go 88% to dems. Stewarts punch like, “FOX IS BIASED, LOOK AT THIS NUMBER WITH NO CONTEXT OR COMPARISON!!!”

Jon’s response to criticism from Bernie Goldberg on O’Riley? he gets a chorus to to sing a dazzling rendition of “go fuck yourselves”.

He recently had a liberal claim 100% of 9/11 victims families support the mosque. While Stewart did contradict him, he didn’t get the mockery a conservative would have.

Would you like me to run a search and start listing out all his BS?
Yes, please do.

His comment about the donation to the republican party was not that they should not do it, it was that they should not bash other news organisations for donating to the Dems THEN donate to the Republicans.

What he skewers Fox on is the hypocrisy, like a year ago talking about how great it was that there was a Mosque going up in Manhattan then this year changing the message to one of hatred.
Oh please. There is plenty of hypocrisy on all the channels. He just goes after the conservative one. Like I mentioned fox is the most balanced in their donations (something he never mentioned), so why lambaste them about it? Why not go after the other channels claiming to be unbiased while donating half a million to Obama and a scant 25k to McCain?

No because Beck is a total hypocrite and reverses his position based on the populist view in order to drive more revenue through Goldline whereas Stewart despite being a comedian (who I often disagree with) has more integrity.
could you provide some examples?
Sure, when I am at a PC that doesn’t have a block to youtube I will.
This was a serious question by the way. I’m still a little up in the air on my opinion of Beck.

He does blast all of the news channels for their coverage, it is just that Fox is such and easy target on the one hand and such a popular one on the other. That is the reason he doesn’t go after newspapers or magazines (other than for not having any readership), what is the point?

He plays the part of a buffoon but I personally think he is a shrewd businessman who spotted an opportunity to make a lot of money. These days though I think he might have started to believe his own hype.

In part yes. I didn’t say he had total integrity, I just said he had more integrity than the guys on Fox news (which is not really saying a lot).

Which guys?

I say this because I’d defend O’riley if you are lumping him in. I watch him when I can, and I honestly think he’s pretty fair. He doesn’t deserve the image he gets. And he actually isn’t that conservative on many points.

And I disagree. I like him. I think he is a good comedian. But part of his job is to twist facts. He’s good at it. It doesn’t make him dumb, or lose integrity, it just makes him a comedian. What I’m arguing is not a personal attack on him. It’s not an attack on comedians. All I’m saying is that the fact standards a comedian plays by are entirely different than a commentator. As such you can’t compare the 2. And you certainly shouldn’t get your facts from one. A serious commentator CANNOT run hide behind the “I’m a comedian” shtick every time someone tries to have a serious discussion.

I specifically remember an interview he did with the Jonah Goldberg the author of “Liberal fascism”. It was a terrible interview. It was pretty obvious Stewart hadn’t read the book and didn’t understand what it was really about (which is fine, I’ve read it, it’s a huge dull technical book) BUT Stewart went after him anyway. Stewart started trying to honestly attack his book which caught Goldberg off guard. I remember Goldberg saying something to the effect of “okay, if you want to have a serious discussion on the merits of the book…” and then started going into the technical nature of the attack and why it was wrong. Stewart then changes his attitude, interrupted and said “hold on, I’m just a comedian” jokingly. And didn’t really allow Goldberg to defend himself.

Ever since then, I don’t take Stewart seriously. When he attacks a liberal, it’s an act, when he attacks a conservative, it’s who he is.

You know what, I haven’t watched that much ORiley. I just got Sky TV which includes Fox so have been watching a bit more than before (before it was just when I was in a hotel that I could watch). He was hosting a debate on the Mosque in NY a couple of weeks back that was frustrating me by the way he was trying to put words in people’s mouths.

What really gets me on Fox is watching the actual ‘News’ portions. The over the top dramatisation and scaremongering that they put on every story is painful. I know other channels are guilty of this as well but Fox takes it to a whole new level.

As for Stewart, some of his interviews really annoy me, they spend the whole interview talking about how they were best mates in college and never really get into anything. For me, I prefer the other segments to the interviews for the most part.

But was he fair?

Eh. Fox news is like that with the economy and “fascism” now, the other stations did the same thing with bush in office. They’ve just flip-flopped.

The left media still has global warming, and what will happen if we don’t let obama have his way, and the bigotry of the tea party, est. to sensationalize.

So once again how is he a serious voice to be reckoned with?

I didn’t think Oriley was fair on the segment I saw, he basically set the agenda that the Mosque was wrong then they had a debate where they had voices from both sides but they then highlighted the points that agreed with their narative.

As I said, I don’t find the interviews to be that good. He has some interesting guests on but the political debate can’t really be got into in the timeslot and even the extended interviews on the web are not in depth enough. I prefer the bits where they pull video of people contradicting themselves.
