I don’t think it’s been mentioned but “Hagakure” might be worth reading as well, and is available free on line. It helps provide some insight into the samurai mindset. I haven’t yet read the whole thing but am looking forward to it.
awesome training man my goal is definitely to be one day a beast like that and I dedicate every day of a fucing life to hit.
BTW, what means rucking in your AM program?
Rucking is basically throwing a bunch of weight into a sturdy backpack and walking faster and further than you want to.
i do this every morning for at least 30 minutes with at least 50lbs and it has helped a ton with my conditioning and fat loss without losing much LBM at all.
Hope that helps brother
Try it this morning and i had a blast! do you run with the 50lbs backpack sometimes instead of fast walking ?
Yeah, all of the time actually. but that will definitely beat you up a little bit more, man!
Alpha,
For us cake-eating civilians who don’t need to ruck for a living do you think that there’s a specific advantage to using a pack as opposed to a vest of equal weight?
Batman: nah, i don’t think so man. Actually, the vest may be better for you because of how it distributes the weight on you.
Either way, doing it every morning will really help your conditioning and make you drop Bodyfat like crazy.

Do you ruck on an empty stomach or do you get something in you first?
@ AM: mine is every morning after a protein shake. I will sometimes take another soon after i am done the ruck, all depending on how i feel my recovery is going.

Thanks Alpha. I have an Army/Navy surplus store near my house that I’m gonna go to today to look for a ruck sack. I also buy the duffle bags with handles that I used for my sandbag training there. I really want to add the rucks to my training.

No worries brother! Oh and make sure you get a pack with a frame, otherwise having the weight beat you up gets old pretty fast!
Alpha- Go immediately and get “The Things They Carried” by Tim O’Brien. It’s about Vietnam. Not a pro-war book, or really anti-war, book, but just about the experience.
It is harrowing and disgusting and heartbreaking, and one of the best books I’ve ever read.

Do you recommend an Alice pack?(if not please post a pic or link of what you recommend) I was trying to keep this as cheap as possible without sacrificing effectiveness and too much quality. Thanks.
Alpha you ever thought of competing? A lot of new events are popping up designed to test fitness levels and you would probaly wreck most of them. Ultimate Fitness Challenge, CF Football combine, Garage Games, Hybrid Challenge, Real Deal Challenge ect. All these seem right up your alley. Or Ninja Warrior. That would be awesome too.

Ninja Warrior is that the shit on G4…They should have a T Nation series
Fighting Irish: Already read it man! Amazing Book!
Animal Mother: Yeah man an Alice Pack would work great and you should be able to get one pretty cheap!
Justscrap: Yeah man, i have thought about it. I may try to jump into an event sometime in the near future. Thanks for even thinking I’d be able brother!
and yeah, out of all of them, i think ninja warrior would be the most fun!
Glad I came across this thread, don’t frequent the conditioning forum enough. It appears you haven’t slowed down from your writing one bit Alpha; killing it like always! Regarding the suggested reading – those of you who have read Marcus Aurelius’s Meditations do you recommend the older translation or the recent one by Hayes? The older one appears a bit more popular, any thoughts?
Alpha indeed! I know you get this a lot but your an inspiration. Anyway, I’m on my third day of your workout. And as of right now, besides the foam roll and warm-up, it takes me around 1.5 hours to complete the workout. It feels good that at the end of my workout, I know that I gave everything I had.
I agree with FightinIrish26, The Things They Carried is a must read.
God Bless and Die empty.
Great stuff, thought I would chime in and tell ya that I do “rucking” 6 days a week with my weighted vest (40lbs currently, next week moving up to 45lbs) & it has made such a huge difference with all my goals and conditioning. A min. of 15 minutes is my goal, but normally it average 30 minutes or so.
