Want To Be A Centenarian

^ I currently have 6 generations alive in our family. We have longevity and healthy longevity, however that is mostly the females.

I have worked my entire life in the medical field and worked all age groups. I spent many years in discussion with the elderly as my patients. 98% of them all said the same thing, they did not want to be a burden on there family and would rather be dead then disabled.

I just want to go out on top, I want to be functional till the point of death. Why be 100 and you cant even wipe your own ass? No thanks.

X I agree on your view point of body fat and longevity.

I’ll take a full short life over a dull long life.

And I’ll take a long full life over a short full life. Again, never said I’d do whatever it takes just to reach a number.

I wasn’t going up against you, BL. I was just emphasizing the quality of life.
Of course I’d take the full long over the full short.

LOL. That’s the point. You really can’t do shit to reach a number. It isn’t like all of the people who hit 100 set out to do so from the age of 30. It is about things that are out of your control from genetics, to “fate”, to chance.

I mean, how fucked up would it be for someone to literally live their life as if the goal was to reach 100; doing all it takes to avoid all risks from only eating 1,000cals a day or less, never smoking, only eating home grown tomatoes, and abstinence…all to be hit by a car at the age of 42?

I was voted “Moat Likely Never to Make it to 30” in my high school class of '72.

Ha, ha, fooled them!!

Yo, OP. You could do all that and get hit by a bus next week. Look, I’ve been active my whole life. I’ve been lifting for 6 years. I played rugby until I was 52. I’ve always eaten a clean diet (some junk in college and on the road) I think I look pretty good for a old broad, but hell, I’m 57 and I can’t imagine wanting to live to 100. Especially when I wake up in the morning, and everything already hurts. Those are the days when I think, OK, I’m about done.

Hey Steely, your hairy shoulder is distracting me. In a good way.

lol

I have this argument with my father all the time, he smokes and has a huge beer belly. He gives me shit for continuing to lift weights, eat right etc now that I am approaching 40. He says I could get hit by a bus at 42 and everything I did was a waste of time. My counter is that his father died at age 56 on O2 after 6 strokes and three MI’s. He couldnt even walk to the bathroom without getting short of breath. I would rather die at 42 in the best shape of my life instead of dying like my grandfather.

Understood, ID. I figure staying away from Subway sammiches adds a good 2 or 3 more years.

Bingo…and that is why quality is better than quantity. I would rather live to 60 being the strongest fucker around and accomplish everything else I wanted as opposed to being the weakest in hopes I live a few extra years.

I thought we weren’t meant to live much past our prime breeding years, actually. Isn’t that about the time that things start breaking down?[/quote]

Modern science/medicine and nutrition. It’s gone a LONG way fairly recently in extending human life spans but at this point the only place to go is on a genetic level, as I understand it.

Genetics already play a fairly large role in how long you’re going to live.

Push I doubt that is humanly possible, but its always fun trying.

OP,

This is a good article for you: http://www.T-Nation.com/article/most_recent/atomic_dog_eat_food_not_much_mostly_plants

It’s an interview with the author of In Defense of Food Michael Pollan.

His advice:

Eat Food

Not much

Mostly Plants

Also I recommend giving up weight lifting and replace it with walking.

I avoid raw eggs because I don’t want 3 days of diarrhea and the loss of 10lbs or more that I worked hard to build that I have experienced twice before. Living to 100 has nothing to do with it.
