That forum. Man.

Yea. I let it get to me too, which is a shame. Fuck those guys.

Yea man, not going to win any battles over there. I was raised in a religion bordering on cultdom, they’re not much different.

Yea. For sure. I muted the whole sub forum.

I love it though. I would love to see what their physiques actually look like, talking about the ‘best techniques for growth’

That was my “long con”. To get them to post some pictures. Got one to post, of course his mirror was 30feet (no joke) away . The “it looks like you just lost a couple pounds?” Comments got me right In the feels though mane. Had a quick kitty party filled with rage then moves on.

It’s like the dude talking about “who wants to be shredded when you can be big” and then also says " I remember once when I was shredded" but also had a thread being like “once upon a time I could do 4 to 5 chin ups”

What in the fuck.

I am neither shredded nor big, and can do more than 5 chinups without even really straining at all. Maybe one of you can ask the Darden acolyte guys what I am doing wrong.

Wouldn’t expect a whole lot more from fans of a guy who writes articles like these:

(EDIT: My point being, promises of gains in two weeks is…dumb, haha.) I suppose I might get in trouble or have this removed. We’ll see. I’ve said plenty of stuff about PC but things are a bit different here.

Anyway, rant over. @wanna_be - you’re looking good, dude. I don’t think we’ve interacted a ton but I follow your log and you’ve made progress and are looking better as time goes on. It’s a slow process, but you’re doing good. Keep it up man.

I was looking through the HIT vs High Volume thread, and I kid you not a guy put together a graph using a meta analysis of the data on both training styles. The graph had like % muscle growth on the Y-axis, and number of sets on the X-axis. He used a linear fit to the data, which was upward trending with the number of sets. After the posted graph, the guy commented something like “so much for high volume training”.

I didn’t even bother to comment. He literally made a graph showing more sets equal more growth, and came up with the opposite conclusion.

I think you are correct on the cult like thinking over there. I also grew up in an almost cult like religious family.

There’s a reason the term “HIT Jedis” came into fruition. I don’t get when lifting stuff got so complicated. Remember when the meathead stereotype was about being STUPID and strong? Let’s get back to that.

I think HIT had some advocates that were convincing writers. Darden and Mentzer being the ones I am thinking about. I have read Darden’s books, and was sold on the training style for a year or so. TBF to HIT, it did produce results when I was a beginner (actually pretty good results). Then I stalled out big time. Volume seemed to be the answer for me.

So I think HIT gets a cult like following because it has / had some convincing proponents, and it does actually work pretty well when you are a beginner (but a lot of things also work).

There’s also the undeniable appeal about “knowing secrets” to getting bigger and stronger. HIT capitalizes on this so much. Then you can go do the gym and snicker at those poor unfortunate souls slaving away for hours while you crush your 30 minute workout and go rest for 7 days.

And since “high intensity” can’t be quantified, it’s got an amazing defense mechanism. Didn’t grow? You weren’t training hard enough.

I think there’s a lot of great things to take FROM HIT, but as a system it always seemed goofy to me.

For sure. The proponents of HIT I mentioned, did a good job of selling HIT as the secret nobody knows about.

This made me LOL

LOL shots fired. In all honesty Crossfit would be optimal AF if not for exercise selection. Super setting and/or circtuits is a great way to burn and build at the same time.

On these tricep push down things… would these be better than conventional push downs where you keep your chest out and elbow closer to the body?

Just tagging y’all as y’all have commented recently and figured you were all big and strong and might know.

Hey man, so for starters I’d like to clear the air that I don’t consider myself to be big nor strong, haha.

I’ve never down pushdowns that way and don’t really have a great way to recreate it and try it myself. That said, I would definitely give it a shot if I was ever training on a cable stack machine, looks like you can go way heavier and that might be good. I bet there’s some sneaky chest work in there too.

I’ve been doing them both ways. I’ll lean a bit more forward when I can’t get more reps. I’m doing them more for pump work and trying to bring up arms. I’m doing arms at the end of all my sessions, so we will see how that works.

Also, not that strong, but I try.

I don’t ever consider any movement better than any other movement: simply different. They’re all worth training: just at different times. Be worth giving it a go for sure.
