That feel when you are out-squatting me and I’m more injured than you lol.

Are you still jacked up? That sucks dude. Any progress?

22.2.2 - 2/4/14

PVC rolling

Bench (3s): 240, 275, 310 (8)
DB rows (3x12): 70 70 70
Chest Fly Machine: 4x12
Face Pulls: 4x10

Good workout. Hit a nice easy 8 reps at 310 with plenty more in the tank.

Finished off with some accessory work and called it a night. Sat in the hottub a while before bed to relax and loosen up.

2/5/14

Went to a chiropractor out here in San Diego today and he was awesome. As I already knew, my whole hip/pevic/lower back area was all gummed up and my upper thoracic/cervical area was pretty tight as well. We did the assessment and adjustment and holy shit I feel better than I have in a long time. I scheduled another appointment with him tomorrow, and a massage with the massage person there followed by another appointment on Friday before I fly out. If I feel good from this I am going to look up a chiro back in DC that practices the same techniques as this guy.

Deads are super. Just any loaded knee extension blows. I can run. Almost sprint. I’m going to feel out some squats tomorrow. I’m hoping for zero discomfort with at least a plate per side, but we’ll see if that’s ambitious.

Sounds like a damn good breakthrough to me.

That is weird man. I really dont know how to help you out there. Sucks I hope you get it sorted out though

22.2.3 - 2/6/14

Deads (3’s): 205, 240, 260 (6)
Single Leg curls: 3x10
Hanging Abs: 4x10
Band Dorsiflexion: 3xAMRAP

My belt was crazy uncomfortable today again. Maybe I’m getting too fat? Back felt good and the reps felt so-so. Chiro wanted me to take it easy for a couple days while we were doing the adjustments so I only did 6 reps. Finished with accessory and AMRAP dorsiflexion–that was really painful.

went to the chiro again and got adjusted. He seems to be happy with the way things are settling into place. I think I feel improved, but its hard to tell. Massage and another adjustment tomorrow before sitting on a plane for 5 hours back to the east coast.

22.2.4 - 2/8/14

OHP (3s): 160 185 205 (10)
Lat Pulldowns: 3x10
OHP Machine: 4x12
Curl Machine: 4x10
Band Pullaparts: 4x20

Great workout. Hit 205x10 on my money set which was about all I had in the tank so OHP seems to be coming along pretty well. Assistance felt strong and easy at those weights and rep ranges. I met up with a buddy for this workout and we crushed some kabobs afterwards. Went and had dinner with my fiancee tonight and about to sit on the couch and polish off another couple bottles of wine. Pretty good day.

At dinner this older lady looks at me and my fiancee and says “six foot four two hundred fifty”. I did a double take and was like “what is this old bitch saying?” then I realized she was talking about my size. I just pointed up and she incremented up in 10 pounds to 270 before she gave up. I guess I don’t look a full 300 right now lol

22.3.1 - 2/10/14

Foam Rolling, Stretching, Lax work

Squat (531): 200, 225, 250 (10)
Single Leg Press: 3x10
Hanging Abs: 10, 8, 8, 10
Band Dorsiflexion (3xAMRAP): 40/40, 35/35, 35/35

Very good workout tonight. My back was feeling kinda tight after sitting on a plane yet again but my pre-workout warmup stuff really helped loosen it and my hips up. Squat weights felt light and smooth. Going to go up another 15 pounds for next cycle.

FInished off with easy assistance work.

Benchin tomorrow early hopefully.

22.3.2 - 2/12/14

Bench (531): 260, 295, 330 (7)

It was amateur hour at the YMCA today. And it was all my fault. I was feeling kinda shitty going into this workout from being run down while on travel for work, so I pushed it off to Wednesday. I was distracted at the workout because my fiancee back home had some issues with the contractor that is repairing our house after the neighbor flooded it a couple months ago, so I was having trouble focusing and dealing with that.

I left off a 45 pound plate on one side for my AMRAP set and didn’t realize it till after I had had somebody give me a handoff. I thought it was just a shitty handoff, but it turned out I was just a moron. We put it on there and the second attempt didn’t go much smoother because I must have gripped the bar incorrectly as it swayed a bit again. We checked to verify I had actually put the right weight on there that time and I had so I took a few minutes to reset.

still managed to get 7 reps, and could have done 8 probably without too much more effort but I didn’t trust my spotter and as mentioned, I was feeling shitty.

Called it a day after this and skipped assistance in favor of the pool/hottub instead.

Now I am even further in the middle of nowhere flyover USA and go from here to Des Moines or Chicago tomorrow to fly back. Guess which one I am hoping for.

22.3.3 - 2/14/14

Foam Roll, Stretch, LAX

Deadlift (531): 220, 245, 275 (10)
Single Leg Curls: 3x10
Ab Machine: 4x12
Band Dorsiflex (3xAMRAP): 35/35, 30/30, 30/30

Managed to get a workout in before catching my flight back from middle Earth and it was a good one. This was a Gold’s in Des Moines Iowa. It was very cold and they had these shitty plates that were nearly impossible to load and unload because the stupid grips kept sliding. Each plate required 2 hands to move around. Makes no sense. They also sucked for deadlifting worse than the hex plates because they would move and then not move anymore when you rolled it.

Anyways, the weights felt good. I spent a good amount of time warming up with my prehab stuff because the beds i’ve been sleeping on and pillows have stiffened me up a bit. Got nice and loose and hit a very easy set of 10 for my AMRAP set. Going to confidently go up 15 pounds here again next cycle and finally break into 3 bills territory

Made it back to DC at around 11 pm last night and my awesome lady had bought me Bonchon (if you don’t know you better ask somebody) and Budweiser that we took back to our hotel (we are temporarily homeless due to a flood in our condo) and had a late Valentine’s Day dinner. It was pretty sweet.

Was she as old as I am?

Twice your age but only half as awesome!

I feel like some shithole in Peru has better weight plates than those. The manufacturer should be locked in a room full of nothing but forks and power outlets for at least a solid 5 seconds.

You should’ve pointed down instead for maximum confusion lol.

22.3.4 - 2/23/14

OHP (531): 175, 195, 220 (6)
Lat Pulldowns: 4x10
Curl machine: 4x8 (I think)
Band Pullaparts: 4x15

I had a lot going on in the past week, including more work travel, so I didn’t get my OHP workout in on schedule. I didn’t do any deload workouts so did this one at the end of what should have been my deload week so I didn’t miss it. It went pretty well I guess. Nothing too exciting. Shoulder is killing me today, after this, squatting, and hooping it up tonight

23.1.1 - 2/24/14

Squat (3x5): 180, 210, 240 (10)

Cardio: Basketball practice

Worked late in my first day back in the office for the past 5 weeks so I didn’t have much time to chill before basketball practice. Hit a quick workout to get my squat in before heading out. Weights felt light and easy.

I added 15 pounds again to my training max for this upcoming cycle. No need to change what seems to be working as I am getting more and more comfortable under the bar and my back and hips are still cooperating. Will reassess what’s up after this cycle, whether or not to go higher or stay the course.

23.1.2 - 2/26/14

Benchin (3x5): 230, 265, 300 (10)
DB Rows (3x10): 75, 75, 75
OHP Machine: 3x12
Rope Pushdowns: 3x12
Face Pulls: 3x12

Very good workout tonight. I thought this might have been pretty close to a PR, at least at that weight, so when I checked after getting back home I was a bit disappointed to find out that I had done 300x10 back in May 2011. That is really frustrating thinking back taht I haven’t made very much progress really in the past 3 years. Fuck.

The good news is the weights felt easy and I definitely could have done 11, or maybe even 12 reps, if I had really gotten after it. that is a bit encouraging I guess. Plus things seem to be heading in the right direction. Hopeful that new PR’s are on my horizon.

Travelling for work tomorrow for a quick day trip so I should be able to get my DL session in Thursday night before flying back to DC on Friday. Will probably hit OHP this weekend sometime.

23.1.4 - 3/1/14

OHP (3x5): 155, 175, 200 (11)
Lat Pulldowns: 4x10
Pec Dec: 4x12
Curl machine: 4x10
Curl machine AMRAP: 50x30

Nice OHP session. if the weight was heavier, I probably would have set a PR. It felt light and easy. Feel like I’m setting myself up for some nice PR’s in the next few sessions hopefully.

Hit my bodybuilding assistance type stuff and ate Chipotle and played two games of century beer pong afterwards. 4 players on a team, 105 cups per side. Played twice and lost both. I don’t remember riding home. Good day.

If we have the table space this is my drinking game of choice

Yeah, but at my age it is a once a year or two kinda thing. I have no idea why we decided to go at it twice in one night. Man I was miserable the next day.

23.2.1 - 3/4/14

Bench (3x3): 245, 280, 315 (10)

I was feeling like shit after work with a headache (unrelated to this weekend’s hangover I think, but I can’t say for sure) but managed to make it out to the gym and hit a nice 3 plater for double digits. This was the first time I went for 10 with the 3 plates, which made me very happy. It was late and I still didn’t feel good so that’s all I did.

I also missed squatting last night (“well I wouldn’t say I’ve been missing it Bob”) due to the gym closing early because of the (non-existent) weather. Seriously the roads were clear by noon but the gym decided to close at 6 anyway. Super gay.

There is basketball game Wednesday night so my plan is to make squats up on Thursday, OHP on Friday, and push Deadlift off till Saturday. I fly to merry 'ol England on Sunday for yet another work trip so I will be doing my 5-3-1 week across the pond with Mary Fucking Poppins and shit. Cheeri-o…
