Wanna be Elite...

4/13/13 - Chest/Shoulder Pump

Machine Press (4x12): 15, 150, 150 (10), 150 (11)
Weighted Pec Minor Dip (4x10): 25 all
DB Bent Over Side Lateral (4x20): 20, 20, 15, 15
DB Hex Press (4x10); 70, 70, 80, 80
Band Facepull (4x10): Greens all
6-Ways (3x10): 10, 10, 10
Band Over/Back (3x20): Reds all

Machine Press is a flex up top for a second, which really sounds easier than it is.

Don’t really feel the pec minor dips–these are weird.

6 ways are fucking brutal, and the over/backs superset with them is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen for a pump. I am literally about to cry at the end of this.

4/14/13 - Arms

V-Bar Pushdown (4x15): 65, 65, 72, 72
1.5 EZ Curls (4x8 + 10 partials): 70, 80, 80, 80
1.25 Hammer Curls (4x8 +8 partials): 30, 30, 30, 30
Pronated Kickbacks (4x8): 12.5 20 15 20
Kettlebell Lying Extensions (4x10): 25, 35, 35, 35
EZ Preacher Curls (4x10): 70, 70, 80 (7.5), 60

Good workout here. Arm days are pretty quick (< 1 hours). The partial movements at the end of the sets are brutal. Do not like pronated kickbacks.

4/16/13 - Legs

Leg Curls (2x6, 1xDrop): 110, 130, 130x6 105x8 80x13
Chain Squat (x3): 315, 315 + chain, 315 + 2 chains, 315, 315+chain, 315+2 chain, 315, 185
Leg Press (4x8 Drop set): 5 pps, 4.5, 4, 3.5

Farmers Walks: 130 per hand for 5 trips @ 40 meters

Chain Squat was absolutely brutal. Not sure I transcribed it properly here, but it was basically adding chains until you get to an “add set”. That was after my third set (with 2 chains). You start with 315, add a chain, add two chains, then drop back to 315, then finally back to 185 for 10. SO its an add set followed by a drop set. it was crushing.

Farmers walks were not part of the program but Liquid Mercury was there working out and wanted to do them so I obliged him and substituted those for the rest of my workout. This took forever–the gym was crazy packed. 2 hours later I was gassed.

4/17/13 - Chest/Shoulders Heavy

Machine Press (3x8): 195, 210, 225 (6)
Chain Bench (5x5): 245, 245, 225, 225, 225
Incline BB Press (3x8): 225, 185, 185
Flat DB Twist Press (3x10); 30, 35, 35
Cable Lateral Raise (3x12): 17 all
Band Face Pull (3x30): Reds
Cage Press w/ Lean-in (4x5): 115 all

Started out much weaker with the machine press. Only got 6 reps on the last sets, whereas I got 8 last week. I ran out of Plazma two days ago (used some old Surge WOF and MAG-10 for leg day yesterday but none tonight). I have no idea if that would make that much of a difference, but something was up. My nutrition was a bit off today too and I was feeling a bit run down.

No bands so used chains for bench and used a weight that felt real explosive.

Dropped the weight considerably for the incline BB press and felt it a lot more directly in my chest. Good MMC there.

Everything else was about the same as last week. Felt a little better pump on the DB twist presses this week.

Ok, now all caught up finally

Back update

Still no improvements in the sciatica down my leg. It doesn’t hurt quite as often as it did, but it still really acts up when I walk or lay down on my back. Really the only time it doesnt hurt is when I am working out or sitting down in a chair. I am waking up multiple times per night in pain and trying to adjust myself in bed to be comfortable.

The good news I guess is that my back is holding up fine during my workouts–no pain whatsoever, and the sciatica seems to go away whilst working out too. I pay for it afterwards though.

I still think it is so weird that I had no sciatica or leg pain when my back was all jacked up and it only started after the epidurals, which completely healed my back but obviously fucked me up in other areas.

So after discussing it over with my doc and thinking about it, I am going to opt for surgery. I just can’t keep staying in this sort of pain and discomfort. Got a phone appointment with him this week sometime to discuss timeframes. I want to push it off until after the 2nd week of May because the girlfriend and I just bought a house so I want to be actually useful for moving out of our current place and into the new spot and getting everything set up.

To be continued…

Gotta do everything you can man. Good luck.

Holy shit congratulations!

Congrats on the house!

Wow last update was back in Mid-April…I think I worked out a couple times around then but just didn’t log it, so that would put my non-workout status at approximately 5 weeks. That is UNSAT.

There’s been a lot going on:

-First I started dicking around in the PWI section of this forum. I have no idea what it is about that toxic waste dump but somehow whenever you start posting there, you forget to workout. I still have no idea why so many people who don’t lift participate in the politics section of a weightlifting site

-Moved into my new house with my girl. We finally got everything unpacked and it’s looking real good. I have a garage to play with my Jeep and my Bike in…been doing all kinds of mechanical/electrical shit to them over the past month. Going to put a bed-liner down in the back of my jeep and replace the stator in my bike sometime in the next few weeks.

-Hurt my elbow doing heavy partial side laterals (WTF) which might be the dumbest exercise on the planet. This was at least a month ago and it still hurts while extending it, but especially when I extend it and try to twist it. Went to my ART guy a couple times about that but he is about useless and I’ve since fired him. I think it just needs to be popped back into place, but all he did was rub on it. I have about decided that ART is the most over-hyped useless trend in the weightlifting community today (kinda like Paleo, barefoot running, and crossfit).

-My headaches are mostly gone. Still get them occasionally but not nearly as frequently or as intensely. The doc did a blood patch to the area where they basically withdrew 30 mL of blood from my arm and injected it into my back to heal the dural puncture. No idea who thought of that but it seems to have done the job.

-I am completely pain free in my leg and back. No sciatica pain at all anymore, and the back only bothers me when I am stressing it in extreme positions or under load. I’ve been going to Physical Therapy and that seems to have been helping. The PT noticed my SI-Joint was a bit out of whack during my first visit (which I had told my useless ART guy months ago and he did nothing about) and she (yes it was a female) was able to get it back into alignment with one try and it has stayed that way for over a month now.

-I am still seeing a surgeon since I still have a hernia, just with less pain. It is affecting my power output in my left leg…I can’t balance on that leg at all and the dorsi-flexion is very weak, thought it has gotten slightly better. He has me doing an EMG nerve study next week, in addition to the second MRI he had me do last week, before making a decision on whether to operate. I would rather just get it taken care of so I don’t end up in this situation again next week, month, year…whatever…I’d rather just smooth it all out and go about living my life without having to worry about it.

Edit: Added
-I figure since I’m still in limbo about surgery and can’t really plan out a proper training cycle or set any real strength goals, I might as well try to get in a little bit better shape. I am going to be following a clean diet with mostly low carbs/high proten & fat for most of the day, with high carbs/protein around workout time. I will be conditioning 4 days a week, at a minimum. Probably Prowler for the most part. I will also be focusing on stretching and staying loose and mobile.

I guess that’s all for now

6/3/13

Stretching/Foam Rolling

Squat (3x5): 145, 185, 225, 275x3
Leg Extension: 3x12
Leg Curl: 3x12
Ab wheel: 2x10

Prowler: 90x40x6

First time lifting in a while on Monday, so took it easy on the weight. These are basically deload weights assuming a 405 max (which is only like a 360 training max). I figure this is at least something to get me started with for the next few weeks until I get used to the motions again and see how my back holds up under load. I probably have lost quite a bit of actual leg strength, so I figured 405 is a good starting point for now.

This was fairly difficult, not gonna lie. Should come back quickly though because it was the motion more so than the strength.

Started the session with stretching, foam rolling and ended it with a prowler. That is my plan for the next little bit just to get some stretching, lifting, and conditioning in. This is what Wendler calls North Of Vag. I have definitely been living south for the past 6 weeks.

6/4/13

Stretching/Foam Rolling

Bench (3x5): 135, 170, 200
Row Machine: 3x12
Pec Dec: Don’t remember

Prowler: 90x40x6

Deload bench using a 335 training max. Elbow was giving me some problems on the bench, but I think it is going to be ok. Still real crampy from the row machines–my lats were tight as a fucking drum.

Finished off with some Prowler.

Deadlift Thursday.

wish the best

Thanks buddy I appreciate it…

6/6/13

OHP (3x5): 100, 125, 150
Pullups: 3x6

Deload OHP. Even this felt heavy. I have become pathetically weak. It will come back.

NO cardio tonight due to the rain.

Was going to deadlift but my abs and hammies are still sore as shit from Monday (lol) so I decided to postpone it. I twill probably not be till Sunday since I am heading down to Charlottesville tomorrow for my girl’s powerlifting comp. She should go around 950 in the 165, raw, which is pretty damn beastly. Her goal is a 400 deadlift. Wish her luck.

She gonna beat you to elite :frowning:

You need a good dose of motivation with one of my leg pictures.

I bought some bad gear and was too cheap to quit using it and buy more until I finished entire bad vial. Now I’m a gimp and further behind catching up to your squat numbers. Doc apologized for vomiting on me when he saw my leg the first time.

Quit feeling sorry for yourself and enjoy the image ol chum.

LOL man that ship sailed a long time ago. She totaled 893 this weekend as a 165, no wraps and drug tested.

She missed her deadlift at 385 on second attempt and again on the third. Her peaking program did not do her well since she had pulled 385 back in March before starting the program. Live and learn. She still broke her own world records in Squat, Deadlift, and Total.

She is pretty good at this I guess.

Dude, seriously, where the hell do you get those pics? LOL

Thanks though man. Just gotta keep on keepin’ on for now.

Back Updates

Had my EMG/Nerve Study this morning. He tested S1, L5, and L4 on both legs and compared them. My S1 and L4 were both good, but L5 on the left side was very impinged, as was expected with symptoms and MRI results. Me thinks this will push the surgeon towards operating since it is a verified ailment. I meet with him next Monday to follow up.

Right side of back has been hurting me the past few days, probably due to favoring the left side and shifting an inordinate amount of load onto the right.

I’ve decided that squatting and deadlifting probably aren’t the best ideas right now, despite how bad I want to bring them back up, so I am going to modify my program a bit to address the same movements but with lifts that don’t put so much strain on that lumbar area.

Back at it tonight.

I don’t even have $25 lol. I need to see what my mom’s insurance covers.

Hey man I tried to msg you but i dont think it went though. I took finasteride and now have a bump on my left nut. Seems my estradiol is too high and free t too low. Also I took some erase and it hurt right at that spot. That is how I found the bump. Did you have hormones before you got testicular cancer? Thanks

Scheduled for surgery July 8th. Finally.

Looks like a “don’t do anything for 2 weeks” kinda recovery, then moving to physical therapy, and he said I would probably be released after about a month and a half to do whatever I want.

Boom.
