VP Cheney Shoots Man

It’s gotten way too much attention. It was a hunting accident. The guy’s basically fine. It’s ridiculous. What should be getting attention is the administration’s brilliant move of putting the United Arab Emirates in control of our ports.

Honestly now, they are making too much of it. I read an article on MSNBC.com where they were questioning why the news came out so slowly, and some other crap. A hunting accident is just that…an accident. Being as it seems prevalent in hunting with shotguns, this is an unimportant thing.

This isn’t unexpected. It took a day to come out to the media because it took time for everybody to connect and think out how it should be presented to the media.

This is precisely what the media is digging for, but won’t get told. You don’t “go to the media” until you have your spin decide and the spin machine ready to roll.

It’s embarrassing for Cheney. It makes him look a bit foolish. Maybe it will up his humility quotient, but I really doubt it.

Exactly Vroom. They were sitting on it, thinking of the best spin.

Actually McLellan only fronted up with the story after it had already broken, being released to the local news by the owner of the ranch where it happened. When McLellan was asked why he didn’t release the story, he said ‘Dick’s first priority was the health of his friend’. LOL

I agree in the big scheme of things this is not so important, not as heinous a crime as, say, what Ted Kennedy did, or making up stories about WMDs and non-existent links to Al Qaeda to justify invading someone, but it does make Cheney look like a right royal idiot, and, about time.

From what I’ve seen on the telly all the coservatives have been peppering each other with birdshot for years.Maybe they should take a class or have a meeting to teach them how to hunt.No one in my family or friends has ever shot anyone while hunting.Hell we used to run around in the woods hunting since 8 or 9 yrs. old with our shotguns and nobody ever got shot.

Hey, dermo.

I don’t think so. I just watched MSNBC’s coverage of the questioning. I had my suspicion hearing their voices. When I saw the fanatical flailing about, I guarantee they were democrats.

Watch the tape and ask yourself how many Republicans were in that room.

Would you care to bet me?

Great post!!!

All the regurgitated talking points wrapped up into one nice little nonsensical bundle. Maybe you could write a speech for gore.

Oh, you did miss a word: Halliburton.

Yea they must have forgotten to handpick the audience this time. Fuckin hate when that happens…

This doesn’t make sense.

The ban was drafting married men WITH children wasn’t it?

They held off in drafting fathers in previous wars so I’ll bet it was the same in Vietnam.

Either way it is stupid to claim he used it as an excuse.

Hey irish,

Actually, the last 50 years, the Republicans are usually only represented by the guy at the podium.

It is a nice little swipe at the 2004 campaign.

However, it must be a real letdown to realize that W. received more votes than any President in history.

I still haven’t gotten my check from Halliburton or George H.W. Bush.

Sorry bud, I am a conservative republican.

I love what the Republican party USED to stand for: small government, no corruption, and fiscal RESPONSIBILITY. Neither of which Bush or Darth Cheney have pushed for. Hell, Clinton was more of a conservative than Bush is. And no, I never voted for Clinton.

Hopefully in '08 McCain will get the nod and rid of this neo-con element of the party that makes us all look like a bunch of crazy wackos.

You can’t pretend to be conservative and think McCain will take the party in the right direction.

Okie is massively confused. There are no conservative Republicans anymore.

A neo-con is conservative on foreign policy and liberal on domestic issues.

McCain is just plain liberal compared to the old time conservatives.

What do you call it when Cheney shoots one lawyer with a shotgun?

A slow start.

According to the NYT, Katharine Armstrong, the daughter of the owner of the ranch on which the group was hunting, explained in a phone interview how it happened.

Mr. Whittington broke away from a line of three hunters, including Mr. Cheney, and failed to announce that he was returning to the group. When he approached, Mr. Cheney had already begun to shoot into a covey of quail that was taking off from the ground.

"This all happened pretty quickly… [Mr. Whittington] did not announce --which would be protocol – ‘Hey, it’s me, I’m coming up,’ " she said.

“He didn’t do what he was supposed to do,” she added, referring to Mr. Whittington. “So when a bird flushed and the vice president swung in to shoot it, Harry was where the bird was.”

I didn’t see the McClellan PC yet…they are usually a waste of time. I do think that McClellan and the press corp - especially Ted Gregory from NBC - have developed a genuine dislike. The press wants answers, McClellan provides illogical talking points as answers. The press corp is frustrated with an administration that gives out very little information (other than the names of CIA agents), and with a press secretary who contradicts himself and avoids answering most questions. That said, the press picks and chooses who they bully. Bush has rarely been asked tough questions at his press conferences, and he doesn’t accept follow-up questions. The press corp would be happy to skewer Hillary Clinton, and just as happy to lionize McCain. I have no idea of the political makeup of the press corp, but I suspect that the grilling of McClellan is due to factors other than political party membership.

Don’t forget the gay male prostitute they place in the pres corp.

No wonder why we revolted against England – tea anyone?

I knew you’d like that, Jeffy.

You know, with shooting like that, Cheney would not be out of place in Pat Tillman’s unit. Your guys tried to spin that one too.

Oh, Halliburton. And Mission Accomplished.

I laughed when I read the ranch-owners account, trying to pin the blame on the victim and not on Cheney breaking the rules of hunting safety.

He (Whittington) was BEHIND Cheney, who tracked a bird through 180 degrees before firing. This goes against what I was taught while hunting, which is, that you fire in arc, basically from your 10 o’clock to your 2 o’clock. You should hunt in a line, but if someone from the group is not in that line, you certainly don’t turn and shoot back behind you.

Are “canned” hunts as this one supposedly was common in hunting? Are they considered “sporting” by most hunters?

How do you have a canned bird hunt?

How can I convince my lawyer to go hunting with him?

Hmmm.
