What are people’s thoughts on this? Maybe part of the illegal problem is to make legal immigration more appealing? Is is a good thing to give voting rights to legal non-citizens who pay taxes like the rest of us?
Only citizens of a country should be able to vote. It like living with the woman instead of marrying. Take the plunge or don’t vote. I was a legal immigrant, but not anymore as I am a citizen.
Pat said it best, only citizens should be allowed to vote, and being someone who went through the LEGAL immigration process myself, I do not think anyone should be rewarded for bad behavior. Citizenship is the biggest privilege any immigrant can attain, it should not be degraded by allowing green card holders those same privileges.
It’s probably fair to point out that these are local voting rights in this case.
You mean legal non-immigrants? Legal immigrants, i.e , lawful permanent residents can generally vote in non federal elections, such as local council related matters.
A better idea would be to enforce the law.
