What do you all think about the idea of allowing only families to vote in the U.S.? One vote per household.
I like the idea.
But just image the struggle to precisely define “family.”
For example?
I was just thinking Parents (Marriage, civil unions, domestic partnerships) and children. Once they are 18, they do not count.
Castoli. Might he be considered a “family” or does he just not have a right to vote?
Then, do those over 18 need to get married in order to qualify to vote?
Are married couples required to have children to qualify as a family?
Do multiple “families” living in a single dwelling vote as a single family?
Do widows and widowers lose the right to vote?
Nope. No reduction in rights is a good one.
Once you start saying “you can’t vote because…” it opens the door to any agreed upon exception.
I’m for it as long as single people don’t have to pay taxes and can never be drafted.
Why would he?
- Yes, marriage, civil unions, domestic partnerships and children.
- Yes
- No, multiple votes.
- Yes, and so would divorced couples.
Would they give up access to all services funded by taxes?
We all pay for things we might not personally support or vote on.
Some of us pay nothing. Besides, what are these services that the federal government provides? I pay municipal and state taxes. I don’t see the president fixing potholes in my street or driving the school buses.
And remember the motto that triggered the American Revolution.
So if rights are natrual or god given, who are we to remove them?
Whats the argument to remove the right to vote from people and what it entails, which is to be represented in government by duly elected reps.?
Pres Lincoln built the intercontinental railroad. President Eisenhower built the interstate highways system.
The EPA is giving out $5 billion to schools to by electric school buses.
We’re beings more powerful than god or nature.
That would be about the only conclusion, but is it true?
Sure. The tax paying head of household gets to vote.
National defense, healthcare, grants/funding for education and public safety (police/fire departments)?
I don’t need trains to survive.
We got here to there before it.
I wonder who will be profiting off that. It’s basically a subsidy for the manufacturer.
None of these projects were done to improve the lives of Americans. They were done to increase the wealth of businesses. Thank you
Ike for giving some of us 45 minute and up commutes. The oil industry and auto manufacturers thank you as well for creating our dependence upon fossil fuels and cars.
I think those big public works projects fall under facilitation of commerce.
. Sometimes that one gets stretched like taffy though.
Welfare for the military industrial complex.
I go to a doctor for that, not Congress. Unless you mean funding then forcing on us a vaccine that doesn’t work.
Then why isn’t college free? What exactly are they funding? Look at Baltimore schools; what has the federal government done there?
My local taxes pay for that. But TSA was a great idea. Border patrol? We’re paying them and they’re doing a great job as a tourist agency.
Does it matter?
It does. If someone lacks the humility to understand their place in the the universe, then they probably shouldn’t be making decisions about other peoples.
Instead of praying to god or some higher power for the wisdom to make decisions, they’ll just take their own word for it as good to go.
Why seek council if one is their own ultimate authority?
