Vixens' Heavy Lifts

Where exactly do you feel it Betty? maybe your are setting the pins too low? In my experience, I would say just above knee height it best for feeling it in your back…

Oops, ‘ouroboro’, didn’t mean to mix up the BF/trainer situation; my bad…reading/skimming skills! I read fast, but miss the odd critical piece of info (could be extrapolated to sum up my whole life yeesh i.e. “I didn’t read anything about POISON!?”

Anyhow, prob’ly better to lose the trainer, even though it impacts your workouts?? There are lots of trainers, and you may even find one who is more effective. Also, in the short term, it saves you some $$, I’d guess :).

I’m only about an hour from Hamilton, in the rapidly disappearing former tobbacco-growing belt (well, the land isn’t disappearing, just the 'baccy crop!). I grew up across Canada and stateside as an air force brat…ended up in Ont. a while back as most of our family is hereabouts.

We actually lived in H’ton for a year or so while searching for ‘pony pastures’; my baby bro’ lived there for over 10 years, and still works as an urban planner etc. for the city. I’ve lived in or close to other cities that aren’t known [at first glance] for their lovely ambience :), but always find they’re not so bad at all.

You’d think H’ton would have a powerlifting club, but there isn’t one right in the city. However, the Steel City PL Club is only a bit south, outside Caledonia. A fellow who is a national ref and has coached a TON has the club on his small farm.

Nice folks, and there are some women who train there. Hub and I chose to stick to lifting in our garage (amongst the feral cats-I tame!-and bits of pony gear!); it ain’t purty, but it IS awfully handy…and the price is right :)!

Hub’s sister has been working out at a ‘pink dumbell’ gal’s gym for about 4 years; she’s gotten much fitter, but she isn’t lifting nearly the weight she could, as the trainers there don’t do ‘heavy’ (they don’t even have enough iron).

Poor s.i.l. is frustrated with her metabolism and lack of strength compared to midget-moi’s progress in under 6 mos.; what she needs is her bro’s guidance for a while, I swear, as he’s got the knowledge as well as being very calm and encouraging.

(A BF of mine from years back tried to train me, and I threw one of his weights through a window-oopsey daisy!-he was such an overbearing jerk! Okay…so [hopefully!?} I’ve matured a bit since then!)

I hear ya about all that end of school year stuff, but when the dust settles you can think about the training issues (I’m noooo expert-ya think!!-but we could perhaps meet in H’ton sometime for a Strong Women workout…or ice cream-whatever!)

We get the Ontario Powerlifing Assoc. newsletter, so I could always pass one on to you. There’s lots of info re: all the clubs, when/where competitions are/rules/results. If we get more specific, we could PM some stuff.

For now, keep lifing-coach or not-and make sure you carve out that ME time that busy moms need!

p.s. ouch, I get that ‘cougar feeling’ re; your ex-trainer! I find myself biting my tongue to stop telling my sooo sweet blacksmith, “You’re such a NICE young man!” Gaaah…it’s not like I’m wearing support hose and bifocals yet!!!

Molly- I have it set up on the pin that is right above my knee…I mainly feel it in the middle of my back…I went a little heavier today and felt it in my traps

Thanks for the vid. Now I can show my girlfriend that girls can be strong and hot. she wont believe me :stuck_out_tongue:

Haha… glad the ladies in this thread could be of service! It can be SO tough to convince women that lifting heavy will do their bodies good! It’s not like she is going to wake up looking like the HULK tomorrow =D

When she gets to a point where she is satisfied with the size of her muscles… she can just work to to maintain her look… =D

simply amazing!!!

‘727’, ouroboro_s et al., hope the lifts are going good this week. Am I missing something, or are stilettos required wear in the gym? I am soooo in trouble if that’s the case; the only time I went ‘serious stiletto’ (for a magician’s ass’t gig!) I had wicked calf spasms the next day…couldn’t figure it out at first!

I know that the lucky lifter’s whose knees let them squat in peace (vs. “you want me to do WHAT?!”) often wear a lifting shoe/boot with a bit of heel, but stilettos seem a bit extreme?? …Sorry, I thought I took a fish oil pill, but musta got something with a bit more zing lol.

Treacle,
I am afraid I am not sure what you are referring to when you talk about lifting in shoes with heels… are you saying you see people doing this? I am confused… hope you are having a good week…

Hi ‘727’-I was SORT of goofing around regarding the high heels on the avatar above my post. I didn’t want to be too silly, or come off as critical-just thought that the stilettos were a bit, um, out of context (although cute :)!).

As a lifting newbie, I was interested to learn that with the squat, many people go from say, the zero heel aqua sox kind of thing for DL, to a special squat shoe/boot.

My coach/fella tried the boots from a PL supplier, but found they weren’t for him; he eventually found a pair of shoe insoles that fit his sneakers and give him an extra 1/2-1" or so.

Apparently for the squat, this helps the mechanics of the lift…haven’t tested it myself, 'cuz of my bum knees (i.e. “Puh-leeeez, give us a break…or you’ll regret it, sister!”)

I hope that your lifting is going good! It’s been very hot and humid lately, so lifting in our ‘grit pit’-alias the garage!-has been a bit brutal, especially if some bugs wander in :(.

But, I’m plugging away, hoping to pull a new DL PR of somewhere well over 200 lbs.-with my hugely powerful harhar 103 lb. self-in a coupla weeks (crossed fingers/toes/eyes!). Will wear my sparkly spandex and ‘stage make-up’ to look good?? for the video!

(If you saw me in my usual beat-up riding boots/ripped jeans/t-shirt with bits of horse manure and snot here and there, plus a scarily ‘naked’ face eeeee!..well, it would tell you how very unlikely the Pretty Woman scenario above would be!!)

Again, keep kickin’ that [iron weight] butt, 727!! You’re an inspiration for Strongchick DLing :)!!

205

you pulled 205 today, sic? =D

Last night. I pulled 5 doubles, supersetted with hanging leg raises.

When I tested my 1RM almost a month ago the most I could manage was 215. I’m pretty sure I can get hell of a lot more than that now.

SWEET! Sorry didn’t see the video before… just saw “205” and nothing else… was kind of confused … haha!

That is awesome though! You looked like you could have done 205 for 3 or 4 reps at least! I bet you could pull WAY more than 215 now!

Keep the awesome videos coming! =D

Molly

Gals you inspire some guys here as well. I also think Sic could have easily pulled another couple reps.

MMG… wow. I’m doing deads tonight, got me in the mood. Thanks!

Thanks Savage! I know this is a “Vixen’s Heavy Lifts” thread, but I was hoping it may “light a fire under some male a$$es” to lift heavier as well! Hope deads went well tonight!

Very impressive/inspiring pulls, sic! How tall/big are you (just so I’ll know how jealous to be!)??

Lol, you don’t have to be that jealous. I’m 5’11 and 163. It’s not as big of a deal for me to pull 200+ as it is for you. 300 now… that’s my real goal.

Okay, well, now I’m still a bit jealous of your height and ultimate strength potential (sooo, that’s why you were flinging 200 around so much!). I’ll bet you can even see what’s on top of the fridge…unless you have one of those shortie ‘half fridges’!

Hey guys! Just wanted to brag on my friend Autumn for a minute! Here are pics of her shortly before she won the OVERALL at the Northern KY Bodybuilding and Figure championships (the largest one-day figure show in the country)… I think she beat out close to 80-90 girls!

Anyway, the reason I am posting this here is because she weighs less than 130 lbs and the other day she decline close-grip bench pressed 135 lbs for a set of 6!!!
I am WAY impressed! =D Gives me something to strive for!

Another amazing Autumn pic… =D

Oh yeah, I will work on getting video too! =D
