Vitamin D3 - Your Results?

I pay $14 Canadian for 90 1,000 IU liquid pills (NOW brand) because they are the only non-tablet I can find. The tablets are way cheaper. Right now I take 2 a day, if I was to try 10,000 UI I’d need a new bottle every 9 days

5000 IU x 120 liquid gels = 60 days (2 months, unless there are 31 days in the specific month, but more if it’s like february) for $9.09, this search took me 2 minutes to find these. If you need a lesson, PM me.

thanks, but did you happen to notice my location  add shipping and duty to that and it is worse than what I pay
truth be told though, i haven’t searched for a Canadian distributor yet, and I probably should.

Just wanted to put my results here.

Feb 04/09

69nmol/L 75-250

Started supplementing with 20000iu per day (NOW brand)

May 27/09

139nmol/L 75-250

Aug 26/09

182nmol/L 75-250

Dropped down to 10000iu per day.

Will test in the new year.

Didn’t notice a change in mood but I am happy it’s near the top of range

Thanks for the feedback. The results you’re getting aren’t surprising. What will be interesting is to see what happens 4-5 months after you cut from 20k to 10k iu’s. I wouldn’t think it would drop much, if at all. However, one other factor is living in Ontario, I doubt you’re getting much sun during the next few months. That of course has to be taken into consideration. Unfortunately, there is little you can do to control that variable.

Is there proof that liquid Vitamin D3 is better than the tablets?[/quote]

It’s unlikely there’d be much of a difference if you chew your tablets.

Thanks Vegita, for that link.
360 X 5,000IU for $14.95 is a great price.
I’m going to place an order as soon as I finish my old supply.

I have an old habit of splitting up all my vitamins and protein drinks through out the day at different times.

With my Vitamin D3 supplementation I’m noticing a slight tingle on my right hand, about 1.78 inches on the bottom side of my pinky finger.

I highly doubt that the vitamin D is causing this tingling. However excessive amounts vitamin B6, in the neighborhood of 100mg depending on your bodyweight, can cause tingling in the hands and arms.

Thanks Zeb…all seriousness aside,

I was just being a smart ass.

Thanks for caring though!

Ha ha, I’m a sucker for this stuff. I saw that and thought “poor guy maybe I can help him”. Sheesh, oh well thanks for telling me.

That did it I’m never helping anyone again.

Is there proof that liquid Vitamin D3 is better than the tablets?

Proof is a strong word, I would say many professionals have good evidence that it is absorbed better. Saying all that though, I get all my vitamins and minerals, or at least any that I can in liquid gel form. I just feel better about taking them. I can imagine the liquid dispersing along my small intestine and getting sucked up by my body. It’s not mich if any more expensive so I say if you can get liquid gels.

I don’t take any nutrients that are in a tablet form. In order to make a tablet it must be bound with something and thus harder to break down and assimilate in the body. I’ve had some very good experiences with capsules however. I take Life Extension Vitamin D3, but have also used Swanson D3 as well. It only took about 4 months at 5000 IU’s to get my blood level up to 100 pg/mL.

my wife and i were recently discussing vitamin D the other day, so i’m glad i stumbled on this thread. i see that some of you are supplementing with doses that are quite hihg, considering the RDA is 200 IU for most people. is this based off your assumption that you’re low? why haven’t more people gotten blood tests prior to supplementing? i had a toxicity issue with Iron when i was younger, so i’m kinda concerned about over-supplementing.

i live in the midwest, and work 3rd shift, so i most likely have decifecnies ever winter. however, i wonder if tanning wouldn’t be just as viable of an option. not like 30 min/day, but something more along the lines of 10 min a couple times a week.

perhaps i will get blood results, and try that out…

Yea, I avoid the pressed tablets like the plauge. I just don’t trust them plus they are harder to swallow. I think the capsules with the poweder inside work well, I just have a tendancy to burp a lot with them and get the taste of whatever was inside for about an hour or two afterwards. I haven’t experienced that with any liquid gels so I stick with them as much as possible. Obviously if I can only find something in capsule or tablet form, I am still going to take it vs not taking it at all.

Canadian distributor, 4000 IU softgels x 360 for 41 bucks. $5 shipping. A bit more expensive but you could still take 8,000 per day for 7.60 (including shipping) a month and the bottle would last you 6 months.

V

Just got my test back. I took 4,000 iu a day from maybe feb-jun. Didn’t take any in the summer because I read you get enough during the summer. Started back up a few weeks ago with 4k a day.

mine was 20 (30-80)

Keep in mind I live in Seattle. I’m going to be bump it up to 8-10K a day and not taking summers off.

Yea, that’s a great price! See it really is a very affordable nutrient if you do a little legwork.

Vegita,
Could you please post here or PM me what supplements you take in liquid form and where you obtained them?
I don’t mean for this to be an advertisement for any supplements out on the market, I’m just curious.

Thanks.

I started supplementing vitamin D a few years ago and I have never been sick once since then. Before, lack of sleep, standing out in the cold, of being in the office full of sick people usually did me in. Possible coincidence, but I doubt it.

Other than that, I don’t know.

The main one is your Multi Vit/Mineral I take Irwin Naturals Mens living Green. It’s a pretty good multi plus it has a lot of extras thrown in. I generally just google and then click the shop tab and then sort by price and then compare the different places selling them online. For most specific supplements, you are going to have a limited choice on how they are delivered. For instance creatine, is pretty much always sold in powdered form. I mean you can get it in caps, but it’s way more expensive and more of a pain in the ass to take. So I would say the things you want to target for a liquid gel would be your multi and any other vitamins / minerals that you take higher doses of that you can get them in. Right now the only liquid gels I take are the multi and the D, but I’m not on any big stack right now, it’s just mainly for my health (and my little noop stack).

I got some capsules from walmart. I think 360x1000IUs for 6 bucks total.

The biggest difference I have noticed is in the quality of my sleep. I have been taking one in the evening and pretty much passing out with no problems. It’s been awesome

i took 1 IU and was able to immediately rip out a stop sign from the ground.
