We went over this in heavy detail at a recent BioSignature seminar.
5,000 IU is not shotgunning it. If you are below 80 ng/Dl you could take 100,000 IU twice a week.
I was running 10,000 IU/day, which runs 70,000 IU at the end of the week, I figured this to be relatively high in comparison to over…100 recommendations, including a very large portion of the people in this thread.
I read Poliquin recommends 40,000 IU/day, Thibaudeau is supplementing 20,000 IU’s/day currently according to his thread “What I’m Doing Now”.
By the way, twice a week? Over the course of 2 days, twice a week - consume 100,000 IU’s of Vitamin D3?
I’d really like to hear more from you, as BioSignature seminars haven’t came closer than Phoenix, Arizona.

Make sure to ask for 25-hydroxyvitamin D. If the results don’t show at least 50 ng/mL, you may want to bump up how much you’re taking.
Thank you.
The conundrum I sent to Bill Roberts asking for an opinion regarding dosage with supplementing Vitamin D3 was…
If I supplemented with Vitamin D3 at 10,000IU’s/day for 2 months, then I have a blood profile done that says I’m within normal range, how would it indicate I was deficient in the first place? Do I just assume?
Will it result in a cumulative effect and place me at the higher range? 80 ng/ml seems to be the base range for what most athletic trainers are recommending.
This will be the first time I’ve received a blood profile in…Let’s say a long time.
I take vitamin D for general health purposes. I take 4k IUs a day – although I don’t notice any difference in mood or energy, I have faith that’s it’s good for me regardless
I have been supplemented 1,000,000 IU per day and have noticed an increase in: strength, gains, and penile size , as well as the ability to shoot plasma from my left eye and lightning from my arse. Also, I piss Superfood and shit Metabolic Drive.

Before you shotgun vitamin D, make sure you know which form you’re taking. Ergocalciferol (the synthetic form) can be dangerous in huge doses. Cholecalciferol isn’t.
I haven’t caught cancer since taking vitamin D. Is that a good effect?
OP, you understand vitamin D can be toxic over 20,000 IUs. Honestly, there’s no need to take so god damn much anyway. Vitamin D is not a supplement to make you kick ass in the gym, I hope you realize this much.

Theirs more to health then supplements that effect your ego lifting. 20,000 IU does seem a little high though and no one truly knows it’s potential. Even though theirs some decent evidence on toxicity beyond 20,000 IU it’s a respectable amount.
A lot of the reading I did on vitamin D3 and health benefits showed that D3’s greatest benefits were uncovered during longitudinal studies looking at D3 levels and cardiac health, cancer, and development of diabetes. Granted, the study subjects were not athletes like one might find here.
I’ve posted this video before. For those who haven’t seen it, it’s a very informative yet easy to understand presentation on vitamin D. http://www.uvadvantage.org/portals/0/pres/
I take 10,000 IU of D3 a week. The bottle cost me something like 8 dollars and will last me several months. I haven’t been sick since beginning supplementation, despite stress from work, school, and starting shift work again. Historically speaking, I’m usually sick 4-5 times a year when working nights. Even if it’s just a placebo effect, the savings in cold meds alone has paid for the D3.

That’s why peeps are not getting sick. Vitamin D is so overrated IMO
I guess protein and fish oil are placebo’s too. Thanks for your insight and opinion.
Protein and fish oil are by no means overrated or Placebo. Comparing those with Vitamin D is just ridiculous. I just think Vitamin D is overrated in general. It may have some benefits, but IMO 90% of it is Placebo. If I am taking something that makes me think I am not going to get sick…I probably won’t get sick. The OP is looking for something miraculous to happen just because hes taking in so many IU per day and nothing is happening.
Nothing is supposed to happen! It just seems that when people read an article or 2 about how great something is, and see no “so called results”, They freak. Maybe it’s the Vitamin that is preventing sickness or maybe it’s just a placebo. We will never know! Like i said…It’s just my opinion.
I am by no means against taking extra VD3 if you are deficient. If someone thinks that 40,000 iu is better than 2000iu, Go for it! Unless you are terribly deficient, Your not going to notice a bit of difference.
I’ve been getting about 5,000 IU a day plus whatever food sources give me. I haven’t really noticed a change. I got really sick for the first time I think in 2 years, lol. That was just bound to happen though. I really don’t think it’s done anything apparent for me. I still feel as though it’s a good item to supplement with regardless because it’s cheap and seems to be commonly under-consumed.
as with all supplements the confusion and varying response is due to one thing, whether or not you have a deficiency. when i say deficiency i refer to anything less than optimal levels. I work with a functional medicine specialist for some very specific health issues but we run extensive lab work to dial in nutrient deficiencies.
This is another area where you just have to be tested, not just once but follow up to be sure the supplementation is working. SOme will respond to a minimal amoutn , others will require large amounts. For me, and i have the blood data to prove it…its took 10000iu per day every day to maintain a level of 72 which is just about perfect.
What has it done for me? TOTALLY eliminated my nearly suicidal seasonal depression. So if you think that is placebo…well, you have obviously never lived through that hell. Trust me i didn’t think for a second that it could make that much difference, so i sure as hell didn’t just THINK my way to it working, i thought it would never work. But it did, and i have never suffered a bout since.
