Vitamin B12 Injections

I was wondering if anyone found results whether for wellbeing or fat loss by taking Vitamin B12 injections?

I’ve heard good things, not sure if it’s worthwhile.

I already take a quality multi with a Vitamin B complex and eat plenty of protein.

Probably not worth it unless you’re elderly, have HIV, or are a vegetarian.

Most people have several year’s worth of Vitamin B12 stored in their liver.

Ahh…

Is there any point in injecting any vitamins of any kind? Say Vitamin D for instance?

Not to my knowledge. Nothing definitive, at least.

Okay thanks

I would also add pernicious anemia or other malabsorption maladies to TC’s list. I eat gobs of red meat (defrosting 14oz skirt steak for dinner as I type this, pretty typical) and I had truly deplorable B12 levels, lower than my vegetarian GF’s in fact. I was right around 300 on LabCorps scale (reference interval of 211-946 pg/mL).

The small bit of research I’ve done has shown that large doses of oral B12 (which happens to be cheap as dirt) are as effective as IM shots in raising serum B12 levels. Also, swallowing B12 is just as effective as sublingual doses.

If you believe you’re deficient, a doctor can test you easily. If you are on the low side of the scale, you may get tested for pernicious anemia as well.

I take 3000mcg per day in conjunction with digestive enzymes and betaine HCL (I’m not recommending this, just offering it in the spirit of full disclosure) and have seen my levels as high as 677 pg.mL.

That being said, I’ve felt no difference whatsoever.

since TC is here and we’re on the topic of B vitamins, does anyone think it’s OK to take a B complex in addition to Brain Candy? B6/B12 overkill ooor?

B vitamins are water soluble. At worst, you’ll have expensive urine.

cool thanks that’s what I was shootin’ fer.

If you’re genuinely curious injectable b12 + syringes are sold over the counter in pharmacies.

No harm in trying… unless you’re a fucking idiot and do something stupid like administer it to yourself intravenously.

I used B12 injections to successfully reduce high homocystine levels. This was a one-time Rx and therapy was completed under dr supervision. I now supplement EOD with OTC MethylCPG (ortho Molecular brand).

While administering the injections and now MethylCPG, over approx 12 months, I have lost about 20#. Can’t definitively tell you that B12 was an aide in the weight loss as I have been doing a bunch of other stuff to get healthy.

Dr. Bernstein diet?

I think that question was for me. I am not familiar with that diet you mention.

I just basically started eating healthy food sources and managing macros on a slight caloric deficit. I also introduced lifting and cardio.

I don’t think it’s OTC here in the states.
