Vit A And Fat Loss

Hey everyone,

CT seems to like Vitamin A for fat loss. Do we have any studies/experiences to support that?
I am really curious b/c I have a bottle of vit A sitting at my shelf and was wondering if it would help to use it or not. I don’t want to “O.D.” on Vit A b/c it’s bad for your liver.

So, do we have any studies or personal experiences?

Thanks

I’m not aware of any studies supporting the use of vitamin A for weight loss.

I will point out to not supplement with high doses of vitamin A long term. It’s not good for bone health.

Hi, there, Thanos!

Vitamin A is a necessary vitamin, and minimum amounts are definitely necessary to prevent disease and degeneration, with more being required for optimal health. But in and of itself, it’s not a magical fat loss aid. Unfortunately, there are no miracle pills or short-cuts.

Honestly, you’d derive greater health benefits from taking a good multi-vitamin, rather than Vitamin A all by itself. And for fat loss, you’d get better results if you added a well-designed thermogenic to a solid diet like T-Dawg 2.0.

Good luck to you, Thanos, and if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.

Vitamin A is closely related to retinoic acid, which has been studied as to influence on obesity. For example here’s an abstract from PubMed…

Retinoic acid and vitamin D(3) powerfully inhibit in vitro
leptin secretion by human adipose tissue

“…In conclusion, in vitro leptin secretion by human adipose tissue
is negatively controlled by either RA or vitamin D(3). The clinical
significance of leptin regulation by this superfamily of nuclear receptors
remains to be ascertained.”

and here’s another one…

Opposite effects of feeding a vitamin A-deficient diet and retinoic acid treatment on brown adipose tissue uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1), UCP2 and leptin expression

“…Feeding a vitamin A-deficient diet tended to trigger opposite
effects to those of tRA treatment, namely increased body weight,
IBAT weight, adiposity and leptin mRNA expression, and reduced
IBAT thermogenic potential in terms of uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1)
mRNA and UCP2 mRNA expression. The results emphasize the importance of retinoids as physiological regulators of brown adipose tissue.”

In other words, there’s some evidence of Viamin A and retinoids affecting fat storage, but nobody’s certain of what’s going on yet.

How much are you talking about? I imagine that I get tonnes of vit A from the portable carb sources I use- lots of carrots, peppers and tomatoes and my post workout sweet potatoes.

TommyT, chronic Vitamin A toxicity in adults usually develops after doses of > 33,000 mcg (100,000 IU) per day have been taken for months.

Vitamin A and carotene/carotenoids are utilized differently by the body. Vitamin A taken in excessive amounts can cause toxicity issues. The same does NOT hold true for carotene/carotenoids. You can eat all you want of carotene-rich veggies without fear of toxicity issues.

Enjoy your veggies!!! (grin)

Well CT recommended 10,000 IU…that plus whatever you ingest from your multi and food.

Cheers TT, you’re a star
