Vikki's Rehab Adventure to a PL Total

I was thinking about you when I ready the ‘goals for 2011’ thread. You had crazy big goals. (At least that’s how they appear to me and my abilities) How far did you get towards them before the surgery? We’ll give you a year and then expect you to get cracking on it again :)[/quote]

I was reading that thread earlier today too. Here’s how it panned out:

  1. Yep, got injured, that was my #1 not to do on this list.
  2. Pro total, yep, got that in March, but in July this year they reassessed the Women’s Pro totals and raised them, thus, I don’t have my Pro total now.
  3. I learned to tolerate my job for now
  4. didn’t make it to a lower class but if I had my BW lifts would have been met.

What I did accomplish in 2011:
Single ply - weighing 160 (meant to be 148 :frowning: )
Squat 450 = 2.8 BW
Bench 325 = 2.0 BW
Deadlift 380 = 2.37 BW

Still pretty happy with my first single ply meet.
Revamp Goals for remainder of 2011:

  1. get to 148 !!!
  2. rehab correctly so I can comeback strong in 2012
  3. build my garage gym !!

You’re pretty darn strong for someone with small bones!

Another product I know of is called Zyflamend, made by New Chapter. My brother (not a placebo effect guy) has degenerative hip issues, and he had great results pain-wise from it.

Cissus quadrangularis is another product that people who lift have given fairly positive reviews on.

Can you tell I’m not a fan of NSAIDs?

yep, I took Zyflamend for about a week, didn’t feel much, but maybe needed to take it longer.

My son takes Cissus, I am taking Genocol to help the collagen rebuild. I do like that, but it doesn’t help when the pain starts.

One last thought I have on this is if I have a specific pain, I like to take whatever it is I’m taking right before being as active as possible with the pained area. My simplistic logic being getting more blood to the area will bring more of the stuff I’m taking to the affected area. I think I learned something once about how the distribution of blood at rest is something like 75/25? torso vs. head/limbs (don’t quote me on the exact ratio), but will change significantly during exercise. Personally, the veins in my temple pop out for a good half-hour+ after I take a spin class.

You’re obviously very knowledgeable and experienced, so you probably know this already, but I figured I’d mention it anyway just in case. Can’t hurt. …pun intended.

I may show up as well to absorb some bench vibes.

It just kills me that you have such tiny bones. I sometimes think that’s why I can’t lift so much. Yet ANOTHER excuse blown outta the water!

Yeah, I give you a year before you’re smashing your old records. Amazingly, I had NO shoulder pain during/after the meet. My body feels like I was hit by a truck, but my shoulder feels awesome.

Punnyguy - picked up some more Zyflamend today, give it another shot

DF & Ouro - you are more than welcome to train with me !!

Snap - little bones and tiny tendons but daddy gave me some good muscle mass! remember I am still about 50 lbs heavier than you.

try to upload some shoulder pics…

stitches out, 7 days post op

4 weeks post op, so happy with the little scars. Sorry the pics are so big.

time to update, but not much going on in the rehab dept. somedays this shoulder just really aches, then the next day it’s fine (well, better).

Today external rotation was 45 degress vs the 46 it was 2 weeks ago… :frowning:
overhead was 135 vs 130, but this was with me pulling my own arm overhead, and I know the PT gets it further than I can. More measurements next week prior to my 6 week dr checkup.

Spent the past weekend on the lake at my parents, but I didn’t go out on the boat, was afraid that if we hit any big wake, it would bounce shoulder around too much.

in the WTH week, my son has his first car accident, wheels locked up right after a big rainstorm and he over corrected and went down an embankment and ended up with a fire hydrant in the passenger door. He is ok, but car was towed to the shop.

Today the refrig went out (only 4 years old!) and all the hairdryers in the house don’t work?

Oh, well, I’m just laughing at this point…hope everyone is doing well.

x2

with BBQ

Ok Joe, BBQ and mono lift, it could work!

Physical Therapist crushed me with words this week…she asked if I was losing weight since I stared rehab. I told her, unfortunately, no.
She then said, oh you are losing muscle mass then. Oh, I just wanted to cry and scream noooo!!!

Glad to hear your son is ok.

when it rain is poors right? and then you’ll be due for some serious sunshine. Its the wheel of life, jusat hang on.

As for PT - I’m going to refer to the comment your buddy left on FB. Yes you might be losing a little, it was rather heartless for the PT to mention that to you, but you will come back kicking and screaming stronger than ever.

I want in on that bench/bbq day.

I’ve never had to rehab anything so I don’t have any guidance on that. But you are obviously accomplished at setting your sights on a goal and doing the right things to get there. This will be no different.

And those incisions really did heal up nicely.

The healing looks like its going well. You going to make it to World’s in September?

Git - thanks

Joe - I’ll be there to cheer you on and take video :))

6 Week checkup - doing well, Doc says need to stretch the arm more, it’s getting stiff, well when you raise it up one freaking time and make that assumption fine! Give me a challenge, I’ll do more work then.

Also had one “dissolvable” stitch from underneath coming thru the incision, so they pull it out…thankfully it didn’t hurt. So more exercise, get to do assisted active rom now, no more sling (except to sleep, still worried I’ll do something stupid in my sleep).

Next and hopefully last Dr checkup in 6 more weeks, then hopefully I can start lifting with those PINK dumbbells.

At PT today, added in walking with fingers up the wall and drawing the alphabet on the wall with the assisting good hand. Now off to Lowe’s to get the stuff to make my home pulley system, no way was I going to pay $25 for a piece of string, handles and a small pulley.

rehabs looking good, sure you are anxious to get back at it
