Nice work lp! Sorry to hear about the pain during PT. Just think though, in a few months it will all be a distant memory!
Hang in there…

You are hittin’ that PT hard. Just like I’d expect. Nice work!
Did you talk with your doc about preventing re-injury when you get back to pulling 400 off the ground and such? The whole mechanism of injury and how unalbe doctors seem to be to answer the WHY question (why did this happen?) fascinates me.
Hey mama, just poppin’ in real quick to wish you well on your recovery!
I’m in rehab mode too, and just like re-reading Snapper’s journey, I’m going to be pulling from you for inspiration.
You’ve got a great attitude and I’m already impressed with how well your progressing! Keep at it, woman, I’ll be following along ![]()
Hel320-I’m tending to agree with you
Late2thegame-I’m trying ![]()
Kimba-boils down to age, repetive motion, and heavy weights, don’t believe there was really anything to prevent this. At least all my muscles and bones are in great shape
Mash-sorry, didn’t know you were rehabbing, what happen? I also reread Snap’s rehab journal too.
Thurs 7/14/11, just shy of 2 weeks out from surgery, 4th PT session, I think PT and I tied today, or at least it didn’t kick my butt like Tues session.
We got all our furniture delivered today so unpacking commends tomorrow ! Sooo happy to be back in our house!
Nice progress lil! Glad to hear the pain wasn’t as bad yesterday.
Congrats on the house as well. Were you doing work to it?
checkin in on you lady ![]()
I remember a couple of PT sessions where I really had to fight tears. And I had a very strong guarding instinct when my PT would move my arm in ways it didn’t like going. All I can say is that it will get better. It feels like a snail’s pace at times. And then all of a sudden – WHAM – you realize you’ve made serious progress.
Late2thegame-air force moved us, we rented our house, but we’re back and I just needed to have new paint and carpet ![]()
Brute-thanks , and give Ngel a big hug for me
Snap-yep, it can be a bit painful at times, but love the heat and ice time
Just over 2 weeks out from surgery- progress is being made
Last week overhead ROM 120 degrees. Today 130 degrees
Last week external rotation 25 degrees. Today a whopping 46 degrees!
Biggest thing I noticed was overhead stretching didn’t cause pain until she was really pushing it further and further. Prior to this any time it got to 90 degrees I felt some pain, but not today— yippee! I like no pain ![]()
no pain is great news ![]()
Well driving my car again, and back to work…and out of the recliner and back to my own bed this week.
But shoulder is just all over sore and achy, maybe pushed everything a bit much past couple of days . Icing alot more, but range of motion is still increasing.
PT went well today, overhead arm actually brushed the pillow I was lying on today! External rotation is still pretty painful, just a lot of stretching on the bicep.
Therapist said she doesn’t take measurements too often because at first there is a lot of room to improve, but once past a certain degree, the improvement range decreases and seems to cause patient some grief because they don’t think they’re improving as rapidly…yep, I’d fall into that category…all about the numbers, right?
PT said most likely the aching yesterday was due to the weather and I should be able to accurately prediction the weather for the next year, aahhh great.
Also found out that plane flights and the air pressure can make the joint feel achy too…will find out about that in Sept when my husband takes me on our 29th anniversary trip. But I will take some Nasids prior to the trip now.
Hey, you’ve been experiencing the halcyon “beginner gains”!
Wrt Nsaids, have you ever tried any of the “natural” anti-inflammatory stuff (e.g. curcumin) to see if you respond to them?
Driving your car again and going to work? Woo Hoo! Freedom (well sorta, I guess) ![]()
I’m glad to hear your recovery is going pretty well.
your words on sleeping in a bed- its amazing how little things
make for big milestones when rehabbing.
I slept in a chair for a few weeks when I broke a collar bone.
I visit your log and have flashbacks.
Funny but I was never restricted from driving even though I didn’t have use of my arm for a month.
That pain will come and go. Whenever you overdo it. I hate to admit it, but I still experience that. The good news is that my bench is back to where it was before my surgery. Which is to say just a bit more than nothing! Nonetheless, I’m thrilled about that and hope you experience the same.
No pain is fantastic news!! And congrats on getting back behind the wheel ![]()
I’m still quite achey pretty much all the time, so I’m jealous. But the other day before we were fixin’ to get a storm, sweet mother of god, I was tearing up! Even had to cut my home-rehab short, I’m simply not that masochistic.
Good to know about the flying! makes sense.
Curious - how often do they have you going to rehab during the week and do you have to do home rehab as well?
Oh, and I got an ACL reconstruction and part of my meniscus removed - so I’m working on the lower limbs ![]()
Take care Vikki!
punnyguy - yes, I have tried Curumin/tumeric, but I didn’t respond to it as well as conventional nasids
Snap - you’re giving me so much hope with the big PR’s on your meet over the weekend.
Mashy - hope your knee is progress well. Yes, PT 2x a week and then twice a day at home. My son helps me at this point with the passive arm exercises.
Just received the dr report the other day:
Tuye IV tear of the superior labrum with detachment of the superior labrum. Tearing of the bicep tendon. Biceps tendon was tenodesed with a 4.5 Arthrex BioComposite suture anchor and two #2 fiber wires tenodesing the biceps tendon to the groove. It was a very small biceps tendon therefore tha 4.5 anchor was used. The patient had very small bones. She also had a tendon to tendon repair using O-Ethibond surtures and closing of the transverse ligament repair and the repair helping to tenodese the biceps tendon was done thru a mini open incision. She had some early chondromalacia and tearing of the superior labrum for which she underwent arthroscopic debridement and degenerative tear of the labrum. She underwent debridement of the chondromalacia.
PT sessions have kinda leveled out this past week. Definitely not progressing as rapidly as prior weeks, but not going backwards. It’s only been 4 weeks so I’m trying to be patient.
Trying to get some pictures together too and I’ll post them, don’t worry, they’re not gross.

Excuse me. Are you the lady that just set a state record for benching? And you get on my back for self-denigration?
I imagine to its hard to be patient and I suck at it my self but we both know you will be better off for doing it.
I was thinking about you when I ready the ‘goals for 2011’ thread. You had crazy big goals. (At least that’s how they appear to me and my abilities) How far did you get towards them before the surgery? We’ll give you a year and then expect you to get cracking on it again ![]()
