Vikki's Rehab Adventure to a PL Total

Are you planning on doing the Ironman Pro-Am?

Mainy - mainly for endurance and hypertrophy

O - yes, I’m an 80’s gal (and some country too)
after my bicep tear and reattachment, my PL buddies suggested double overhand until the weight gets heavy and then switch to hook grip. I was thinking of switching my over/under hands, but my left bicep is probably not in good condition to mess with that. Hook grip is getting better and I’m finally starting to get callous on my thumbs, yay? One guy was trying to explain to me how Oly lifters wrap their thumbs.

Joe - I was originally planning on the Ironman, but Laura Phelps Sweatt is doing a Women’s Pro/Am in April, so I thought I’ll do both, then I rethought that, probably not a really smart thing to do 2 major meets in a month. Thus I’ll be doing the Women’s meet in Cincinnati on April 14th, which should give me another month for rehabbing, ordering and learning my new gear…yes, I’m going to the darkside - Multiply !!

But I will be there, helping/handling/cheering - are you planning on coming up? I will be in Arab in February, just too many of my new and old PL buddies lifting to miss it!

I’ve never done a Pro-Am but I’m thinking about it.

Great progress in here! Those reps are insane, but in the best way.

Joe, I did Ironman last year as my first sinle ply meet. It was fun, crowded and all pros lift on Sunday, so that was a nice relaxing day watching the big guys lift.

Kimba, thank you,

Very nice. I was looking so see if you changed up your grip. If you have small hands, hooking it must be pretty hard.

We did KB/DB swings tonight as well. There must have been something in the air.

I had planned to do box squats tonight and had only ever done them raw but after reading your log, I decided to try them in suit bottoms. They made it harder and easier.

Hey O - yep my hands are tiny, hook grip isn’t working well, the bar seems to roll in my hands. So I sucked it up and switched my over/under hands and that worked well. My shoulders, both of them are really sore today, but that’s almost 90# lbs more than they have pull in over 6 months.

Your box squats looked good, pulling sumo and squatting wide my old hips really need the support.

Your coaching mojo is strong! (wrt linnrose’s deadlift PR)

So what motivated you to go multi-ply? You just moved into the single ply, as I recall. Is multi big with SPF? My fed doesn’t allow multi. But I think users have to handle serious weight to make it worthwhile. And that’s not me. But it’s certainly you!

Yes big coaching mojo! His smile was something else

Well it was a big debate around the house, I’ve only done one single ply meet and at that time hit Pro total, so I needed a new challenge.

With the bicep surgery I want to lift as weight as I can before I fall apart, ha ha

SPF probably the has majority of raw and multiply litters, not a big percentage of single ply lifters.

I committed to multiply today, ordered Predators and a SDP.

I can’t wait to see what you can put up in multi ply. I have a secret desire for it but at the same time I get so freaking sick and tired dragging on single ply crap that the extra work would make me want to nap.

How many years have you been lifting?

More video please… with the 80’s sound track. I like watching you lift.

O - I’ve been lifting going on six years, my first meet was in 2006.

Question about that slingshot: Is it supposed to come down over the elbows like that? My coach has a Ram and wears it up on his biceps. I wonder because he has a lot of problems keeping it from creeping up and buckling a bit when he positions and takes the liftoff.

Nice work! Any pain when benching? I think our recoveries are very different. Like how you have to concern yourself with grip during DL to protect that bicep. Never had to worry about that. But our injuries truly were totally different.

Good morning Snap! Yes the slingshot has a slit right where your elbow should go, it is designed a bit different from the Ram. It gives support to the elbow tendons and really helps keep me “tucked”.

No pain during the benching, next day shoulder joint itself is a bit tender, but no sharp pains and usually by the day after that it’s back to normal. I should probably ice it after bench to keep the inflammation down, but…

Yea, I don’t want to pull the bicep tendon out of the screw in the arm, and I know eventually the other side will probably have to be done, just due to repetition and old age and the tiny size of my tendons. Dr said just go until I can’t handle it anymore before getting that side fixed.

That’s interesting about the slingshot going over the elbows like that. I’ve never really paid attention to the positioning on anyone. I’ve made my own ‘sling shot’ out of old wraps and it slides right up and doesn’t cover the elbows. So do you find it hard to pull down like that? I’ve tried my home made version with a long sleeved shirt and it pushed it up more over the elbows from the shirt bunching up. I ended up dumping it because I couldn’t control it like that.

I also like how your fist videoed bench (175) is the best I’ve ever done in competition.

Tell your friend I like her hat. I found myself training in a beanie last night due to the cold in the garage. It’s kind of nice and cosy.

Here is an old video of one of the home made ones. This is the one I made for Frank. I made another, tighter one out of THPs for me. I need smaller arm holes due to having long stick arms. Sling Back - YouTube
