First person shooters have removed the hesitancy of American males to automatically shoot at a human shape.
When I got into the military (which was some time ago, pre-DOOM, if that helps you), a big part of military training was overcoming a natural tendacy to shoot automatically when you see a target. (They did a big study on this in WWII — 20% of the people shot 80% of the bullets or something. Lots of people hesitate that critical 1/10 second. They worked on this with the pop-up targets and things.)
Anyway, while I was “in” there was a very quick realization that this generation of soldiers do not have that hestitation — it was crushed by games like DOOM and other 1st person shooters.
