What Vick did was F’d up but I think he has an awesome opportunity right now. Vick can put a big dent in the dog fighting scene by doing what he’s been doing since he walked out of prison, speaking to kids on behalf of the humane society to stop dog fighting. As a kid is how Vick got introduced to dog fighting, if a kid who otherwise might thing fighting dogs is ok hears Vicks story, learns that fighting dogs is wrong and see what can happen even to a super star, that kid may never start fighting dogs.
From what I’ve seen of Vick since he got out he’s done the things he needs to do to get his life in order, he’s working with the humane society and trying to do what he can to try to “make it right” (that’s not the right wording but you get it).
IMO all things considered he did his time, he’s working to be a productive member of society and has been said to be truly remorseful then I’m all for him coming back. As a Falcons fan, I love he went to the Eagles, those ass hats can have the headache.

People who said there is too much attention being paid to VIck is complete bullshit. All the vick news has been about where he may be signing or if the commish will reinstate, not so much what he did.
I don’t know man; for some reason I watched Mike and Mike this morning and people are practically crying in outrage over this.
Chumura is a good example, although I guess he was never convicted but it certainly seems like he was doing something wrong.

very good point.
What he did is definitely fucked up, but there is also a cultural aspect to it that many simply can’t relate to because it isn’t their reality. Maybe some good can come of this by bringing attention to it.

The Eagles coach is a Goddamned liar. He was on sportcenter just Wednesday saying that they were content with the current QB situation and that they were no in the market for Vick. Lies I tell you.
Honestly you guys are mingling their personal lives with their professional lives. I want the best player for the job. I could give a fuck if he screwed donkeys on Saturdays while watching chicken porn. Its what you bring to the team. Vick could have gone his ENTIRE career without getting caught and we would still be rooting for him, because he is a great athlete. I am a Giants fan and I still want that Asshat Plaxico on my team because of what he brings to the table.
I am an animal lover and personally think that Vick is a heartless bastard who should get ass raped by a Great Dane daily for the duration of his parole. I still thinks that he should be allowed to play he didn’t cheat in his ACTUAL profession, like scores, of baseball players who cheat and get a slap on the wrist. Shit Jim Brown had all sorts of personal problems during his career but that doesn’t take away from his greatness on the gridiron. Hate him for the person he is not the great football player that he was.
This pretty much sums it up for me.
Personally, i’m amazed that Philly picked him up.
Now, i’m just curious to see where it goes from here.

Vick is talented man. You can argue about that shit till you turn blue but he’s probably one of the most talented QBs in the game right now, maybe ever.
Maybe ever… WTF? His career completion % is something like 50. I won’t argue his talent and he won some playoff games(2) but the guy never put three good games together as a passer…ever. To be considered one of the best you gotta do both imo.
As the OP of the thread and an animal lover (espescially a pit lover) I didnt post the thread to deal with the horrible shit he did, but what it meant for the eagles. That being said I hate what he did you have to be a immoral human being with real potential for evil to do what he did and the following is what should happen and then he could run for president lol
Vick is a scumbag, pure and simple. I don’t believe he deserves a second chance, but then again, I don’t believe any of those scumbags deserve a second chance (read=Stallworth, etc) It’s not like they don’t know any better, they do, their just dumbasses… anyway, just my two cents, which doesn’t amount to $hit.
And just to throw this out there, I’m REALLY surprised he didn’t go to the Bengals with their record of spending the off season in the slammer… (yeah, I’m a Bengals fan… it’s SAD!)

Could these dog lovers please give me a justification for valuing a dog’s life more than say, any other organism’s life. I’ve never really received a satisfactory answer that didn’t involve reasoning along the lines of, “they’re really cute.”
you probably don’t own a dog.
by your argument, killing an ant and killing a dog are the same thing. surely, even as someone that doesn’t have a dog such as yourself, you can see the difference. Now imagine, that animal being a part of your life for 10-15 yrs.

Where did I equate a dog to an ant? What I’m asking for is some sort of hierarchy which assigns value to organisms. Something along the lines of the ability to suffer pain, domestication, intelligence, etc etc.
I don’t give 2 shits about the Eagles, but I’m definitely going to watch some of their early games. Because there will be DRAMA. I guarantee mass boos whenever he’s in the game, especially on the road, protesters, fans with crazy signs, etc. Its going to be pretty wild.
Many cultures eat dogs and our neighbors up north in Canada eat a lot of horses. There is no real hierarchy value to organisms. Humans just happened to be on top so we like to play “God” to the rest of the organisms (or try to - bacteria/viruses keep slapping our godlike faces a lot of times).

Yeah, I am more of the Phillies and Penn State football but this move along with now adding Maclin/McCoy/Weaver to Jackson, Kevin Curtis and Westbrook and Celek (if healthy) possibly emerging makes the Eagles pretty exciting. A ton of athletes there and a veteran in McNabb who’s proven he can get the job done. If McNabb wins a Super Bowl, he pretty much guarantees himself a spot in the Hall of Fame so it would be an interesting story to see if Vick is the final missing piece that helps him get over the top.

I hope so. I think though we have a winner in McCoy. He seemd to do pretty good last night.
I really want to know what this guy is going to say about the whole thing. Utley and his wife Jen are incredibly active in the animal rescue community in Philly. Both by giving their time and money. Utley was labeled by a local Philly paper as the “Anti Vick”. It was said that we should be proud to to have him in our city.
They adopted a pit bull puppy that was rescued from a row home fighting ring in Philly. I realize Utley and Vick are not on the same team nor even the same sport. But they will be sharing the same city. They play across the street from each other.
Also I find ironic that Vick was picked by the city that has one of the worst, if not the worst, problem with animal abuse. Here is one of the dogs that Chase Utley and his wife paid the medical bills for.
Her name is Etana and she was beaten by a group of teenagers and then had acid poured on her and then the scumbags attempted to light her on fire.
It’s very good to know that money has not corrupted the minds and tainted the hearts of all high-paid athletes out there. Chase can proudly wear the title of the “Anti-Vick.”
Donovan F McNabb is less than thrilled about this, so let’s see how long he sticks around
Michael Vick was NOT a top 3 quarterback before he went to Club Fed. Very athletic? Yes. A good quarterback and threat to run? Yes, big time. Read defenses well? Fail. Made timely and correct decisions with the football? Not so much. So we will see how the dog killer fares
Murdering dogs is’nt the only time he has run afoul of the law. Time will tell if he can fly staight or not. Let’s hope for his sake he does’nt spend much time around his younger brother

1 - Mcnabb is quoted as saying that he pushed for the signing of vick
2 - Agreed, however he may be effective in a role where you see him lineup differently at the LOS as a WR or RB or in the wildcat
