UK, July 31, 2008 - Sony has announced plans to develop a Venom movie, based on the villainous parasite from the Spider-Man series.
The studio is hoping that the character will re-invigorate the franchise, in the same way that Fox is hoping their forthcoming Wolverine pic will do for the X-Men series.
Mean Creak scribe Jacob Estes has already been commissioned to have a stab at the script, but The Hollywood Reporter claims that Sony is considering going in a different direction and therefore seeking writers for a new draft.
HR also reports that the studio isn’t convinced that Topher Grace, who played Venom in Spider-Man 3, can carry a tent-pole picture and so is considering other actors.
As far as we know, the studio is still developing a fourth Spider-Man flick, set for a 2011 release.

Hopefully they’ll cast someone who can fill eddie brocks shoes
As much potential as this has, I have been overwhelmingly disappointed in all the Spider-Man movies to date. I can only hope this one raises the bar for this franchise.
Venom is my favorite comic book character, I even have the original release of Venom Comic book. If they can find someone that can play Venoms crazy but humorous personality as well as Heath Ledger played Joker then it would be a great movie.
Don’t even get my started on Topher Grace, worst letdown since the last episode of Seinfeld.

Clearly replacing Grace will be extremely hard see as his performance in Spiderman 3 was so profound…
Venom was in Spiderman 3? I must have blinked.
lol for like 5 min towards the end yea
Should be good, Although im not a fan of comic books i really did enjoy some marvel films
I’m just trying to think how they could make the film with eddie brcok…don’t want to spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen spiderman 3, but if you have, you know what happened at the end, which is making me wonder.
The last episode of Seinfeld was the only episode I liked.
If Sony decides to make movie starring a villain I hope they don’t spin it so he comes off as a goodguy. That always turns out gay. coughthe scorpion kingcough I hope they have the balls to make an evil movie about an evil guy and have him trash the hero in tights at the end.

I hope they make Carnage as the main bad guy. And at least get somebody to play Eddie Brock who actually has lifted a weight in his life.
They just need a regular guy, and have some huge guy as Venom. Even though Brock lifted weights, he still was 3x larger when he transformed. This should be easy, hell I don’t know why they didn’t do that for Spider-Man 3.
Man, Movie studies should just take a break. Make no new movies for a year, let people shake off all this nonsense and give it another try a bit later.
I would recomend forgeting spiderman 3 all together. Especially topher grace’s performance. The real kicker of the movie would be to see venom take on spiderman and spidey gets the sh!t kicked out of him like in the comics. The took a badass (VENOM) and turned him into a pussy. It makes me sick. Sony had better do it right, but they still cant come out with good games for the PS3
The problem is that these movies nowadays are meant for the evo kid, and not the muscle thinkers like us here on T-Nation. When I envision a superhero, I think bulging and ripped similar to comic book drawings. Now its more like Abercrombie and Fitch models on their day off.
