Velvet's Lifting and Other Fun Stuff Log

That sucks mate.
What a prick of a time to do it too.

Hope everything works out. Sorry to hear about your job. Hopefully you can find another one you like.

Thanks for the kinds words everyone! Shouldn’t take long to get stuff squared away, but the monotony of finding a new gig makes me want to swallow a grenade.

Software sales, which I’m kind of don’t care for anymore but the money tends to be good

They sure can! That’s part of the risk/reward matrix of working for a startup often times. They did give me a months notice which I appreciate, so hopefully can get the ball rolling before then.

And it doesn’t stop us from having to live it haha!

Fortunately I did all of my holiday shopping in cash this year, no need to worry about extra bills coming in for random crap.

Me too! It’s always tempting to take the first thing offered in these situations even if it’s not ideal, but I hope I can avoid that. My education and professional background set me up for office and sales jobs which I’ve come to find out make me want to die. Perhaps being a bit hyperbolic haha. I’ve been toying with the idea of going back to school lately, who knows, got some time to think it over.

BW tricep extension: (pins at 16)
Head under - 5x10

Lifted with a friend much stronger than myself (he hit 225 for 19 on his top bench set today) and it was sweet. My top set at 170 moved real nice, had 2 more for sure maybe more.

Did a couple different lifts due to equipment being tied up (he was also doing squats with my other BB) and definitely could have used more weight on the rows. EZ bar made for nice contraction though so something to keep in mind for bent rows.

Now to go shovel like a foot of snow in my driveway!

Pullaparts

Bench:

Nice and quick today. Did the 3 assistance lifts as a non stop circuit the first 3 rounds, started moving a little slower between stations throughout the last 2. Surprisingly it was due to a massive forearm pump that was pretty agonizing.

Hi here, I’m in! Good log, I like outdoor activities a lot too and like to do many sport beside the weight lifting;)

Good luck with the 180lbs goal! We have a similar height/weight/strenght:P

Good to have you on board! Do you have a log here as well?

That sounds difficult

Wow your name is velvet I had no idea. Thought it was just random numbers.

With the j-hooks at hole 16 the bar is about belly button height which makes for a fairly forgiving angle haha. It’s a nifty way to progress though, rather than adding weight just lower the bar (which effectively introduces more body weight).

Can’t suggest them enough if you’ve never tried them before. They don’t seem to put much pressure at all on the elbows compared to skull crushers and you get a little extra ab work by holding a plank.

The 3’s certainly throw it off a bit. The nickname comes from a really great day of snowboarding close to a decade ago (can’t believe it’s been that long now!).

Was having a killer day on the mountain riding wise, and an even better day chatting up the cute lift attendant at the base lodge. When we got in the gondola my friend I was with goes 'ya know, from now on I’m calling you Mr. Velvet" and it just stuck.

Hm that is surprising. Sounds like hell of a lot of stress on the elbows or maybe I am thinking of a different exercise? Have you tried body weight triceps extensions? I found that very difficult but than again I am probably heavier/ fatter than you  . Unfortunately I have to be careful with my elbows so I usually save them for pressing.

Yep! That’s exactly what I was doing. Like Ben Bruno demonstrates here but far less impressive for me:

I tried them on TRX like he does but it had the same shitty feeling on my elbows. Oddly enough doing them on a straight bar doesn’t. I just back my feet up enough so I can dip my head past the bar on the descent.

Overhead French press actually feels fine on the elbows too but I don’t have a good seat for it. I did them in a kitchen chair a while ago and when I lowered the weight behind me I almost dumped the chair backwards :joy:

7th week deload

Warmup:

Jumps
Straight arm pulldowns

Dead:
45x10
135x5
185x5
225x5
255x3
285x1
320x1

Pullups:
+25x5x5

Curls:
45x10-8-7

Good morning:
95x5x10

Spotto press:
95x5x10

Pretty chill workout today. Lifting with my other roommate so the pace was a bit slower than I’d have done solo and also why I did the Spotto’s. Never done them before and he was benching so figured I’d give them a shot to make the most of the setup. Pecs were screamin’ towards the end!
