Vegetarian Diet On Strength

DPH I suppose you eat meat- have you done any of these things?

the strongest people in the world are all meat eaters…

please show me a vegetarian that has squatted 900 lbs with only knee wraps and a belt…

please show me a vegetarian that has bench pressed 700 lbs in only a t-shirt…

please show me a vegetarian that has deadlifted 900 lbs…

please show me a medal winning olympic weightlifter that doesn’t eat meat…
I was trying to show a comparison between the strongest lifters that eat meat to the strongest vegetarian lifters…

the strongest lifters that have meat as part of their diet seem to be considerably stronger than the strongest vegetarians…

and that an omnivorous diet is healthier than a vegetarian diet…a healthier diet is going to help produce better athletes…

I wasn’t trying to show that all you need to do to squat 900 lbs, bench 700 lbs, or deadlift 900 is eat meat…only that the only people that have done so are all meat eaters…

if a lifter wants to grow and get strong optimally he/she should have meat as part of their diet…

You where trying to show a comparison between the strongest lifters that eat meat to the strongest vegetarian lifters? No,you said that meat eaters are stronger than vegetarians;and that twas a fact.Opinions are not facts.

Oh, and I’m not sure if it has any effect on my endurance, but once I switched from eating meat to going veggie, I cut my marathon time down from 3:50 to 3:15.

Lance Armstrong is an omnivor…

how many times has he won what can be considered the most grueling test of endurance in any athletic endeavor?

hmmmmm…
Cool! I’ve been compared to Lance Armstrong! lol

I think I see where you’re going, but unless I embark on the exact same training program as he has, then your comparison doesn’t apply to me. You’d have to measure Lance up against a vegetarian who trained just as hard- same event, same training schedule, etc.

I can only speak empirically from my own experience and that’s all I did. On the exact same training program, I performed better without eating meat. I’m not saying anything other than that. I’m not suggesting that a meat eater on the same program would have performed better or worse, I’m only offering my own experience.

all other factors being equal…people that have meat in their diets are stronger than vegetarians…

it is a fact that an omnivore diet is better for humans than a vegetarian diet…a better diet is going to produce a better athlete…

is meat sufficient for an athlete to reach their optimum potential? no…

but meat is necessary for an athlete to reach their optimum potential…

Ok,so you believe meat is necessary for an athlete to reach their optimum potential. That still isn’t a fact though. All I’m saying is don’t try to force your opinions down our throats.Instead of saying"you need meat to be stronger", say"I believe consuming meat makes you a better athlete".I’ve seen plenty of strong vegetarians and thats just something I don’t agree with.

Hmmm. Not quite the scientific answers I was looking for.

Since this devolved into a pissing match I researched the topic elsewhere, and concrete answers are hard to find. Every vegetarian website on the net brags that Stan Price was the world recod holder for raw bench pressing in his weight class, and he was a vegetarian. Unfortunately, none of the damned sites will state how much he could bench, so if anyone could find that out, it would be helpful.

The sites all also point out that powerlifting champ Bill Manetti was a vegetarian, although again, good luck finding his lifting totals.

Most of the famous athletes who are vegetarians are involved in endurance sports, so that kind of lends credence at least to the theory that a vegetarian diet will do good things for one’s endurance. As to why the best vegetarian athletes are crushed by the best omnivore athletes, that really has nothing to do with diet at all. It is merely due to the fact that the overwhelming majority of this planet’s population are omnivores. That should just be common sense.

Are bulgarians naturally stronger than everyone else? I mean, C’mon, the best olympic lifters are from Bulgaria, so doesn’t that meant they’re naturally stronger? Of course not. It’s just that in Bulgaria, olympic lifting is more popular than any other sport with the possible exception of soccor, so they can draw on a much larger talent pool than we can. Same deal with omnivores and vegetarians.

Hmm.

Grim & Cthulhu both type without a space after their punctuation.

They’re both soy boys too.

Coincidence?

Don’t worry I was just busting your balls- I’m a meat eater as well. Seems these "discussions "get too serious at times…
